My name is Jeff, I'm 23 years old, and I was born in St. Louis, Missouri. I now reside in Columbus, Ohio. The world of music is my profession and passion! My goal with teaching students is to understand each individual's wants and needs, to help them excel and achieve specific goals, and to inspire their desire and creativity towards becoming a greater musician, artist, and individual. My training with musical instruments includes the bass guitar, upright bass, piano and flute. I recently graduated from The Ohio State University at age 22, with a bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies/Performance for the Double Bass. Presently, my focus is teaching, performing, and the continuous studies of the vast world of music! *** Lesson Details *** My teaching style is one that adheres to an individual's wants and needs. Additionally, I feel that students need to experience and work on specific concepts/techniques pertaining to their area of focus and instrument. In order to obtain a proper education about what it is a student aspires and needs to learn, I feel that it is necessary to create an environment where the student enjoys their lesson, but also recognizes the need for some study, training and discipline. After 3 to 6 months with me, I expect that my students have developed a comfort zone with their area of focus. They will have learned the anatomy of their instrument, the functions of their instrument, how to play their instrument at a basic level, how to apply musical and technical concepts to their instrument, and how to play and write basic songs. *** Travel Equipment *** I expect students to provide their own instruments, unless you are traveling to my home for a piano lesson. Concerning amplification, I would expect a student to provide his own amplification, but I will be able to bring additional amplification to any lesson, whether the student has an amp or not. I will provide instrument cables, tuners, stands, and other basic necessities for a lesson. *** Specialties *** As an instrumentalist, I specialize in the bass guitar, the upright bass, and the flute. My strength is versatility, which I've managed to develop from studying music and practicing/performing an array of genres (i.e. jazz, classical, reggae, rock, R+B, funk, country, gospel, the blues, and soul). I perform with a variety of musicians around the state of Ohio and occasionally out of state. Some of my goals for building outstanding musicianship includes: understanding the authentic qualities of different genres, understanding the instruments I play (and play along side) to the fullest extent, building techniques and technical proficiency on my instruments, and understanding fundamental concepts of music theory and sight reading.
