I am a passionate scientists with a love for teaching. I am currently working as a teaching assistant at Rutgers University while I pursue my PhD in Ecology and Evolution. Before coming to Rutgers, I earned my B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Rice University. I have studied in systems throughout the world including Belize, Guam, and Saipan. I take my practical experiences and mix them with conventional learning. I have taught a wide range of subjects from basic math to middle school students to wildlife conservation and management to masters students. Each student and each teaching experience is unique and I like to approach it in that way. A style which may work in a large classroom setting may not be beneficial in a one on one lesson and method of teaching which works for a visual learner may not help a kinesthetic learner. Knowing this I cater all lessons to the individual student. Aside from the STEM fields, I also am a huge proponent of physical fitness. I am an active runner and competed from my Division I track and field team in college. I also train in Brazilian jiu-jitsu as well as muay thai and traditional western boxing. Whether you are hoping to lose some weight or improve already existing striking skills, we can work out a plan to meet your goals.

    Experience

    Teaching Assistant - Ornithology

    Apr, 2016 - Present

    Rutgers University

Ornithology is the study of birds. Classes are based on learning what makes birds unique from other animals and how to identify them. Classes are a combination of lab and field based learning.

    Varsity Tutor

    Aug, 2014 - Sep, 2015

    Varsity Tutors

I worked for Varsity Tutors and tutored in clients homes. I tutored physics, biology, algebra, and SAT test prep. I truly enjoyed working for the company but moved and many of my students were too far for me to continue to travel to their houses. Additionally Varsity Tutors only allows in house tutoring and this did not work ideally for my schedule.

Teaching Assistant - Wildlife Conservation and Management

    Aug, 2014 - Dec, 2014

    Rutgers University

This course taught mathematical modeling to represent wild populations. These models started simple and eventually were built up to become more complex and realistic. The final project of the class involved taking all methods that were learned during the class to create viable plans to protect threatened species in New Jersey.

Co - Instructor: Life of Birds

    Aug, 2014 - Dec, 2014

    Rutgers University

I helped co-teach a freshmen level introductory ecology course focusing on basic field techniques for ecology. We focused primarily on birds as study organisms.

    Field Crew Leader

    May, 2014 - Sep, 2014

    Ecology of Bird Loss Project

The Ecology of Bird Loss Project is a long term scientific investigation of the impacts of the invasive brown tree snake on the island of Guam. I spent several months in the Marianas conducting research with this project and leading field technicians through field sites. This experience reinforced many of my field techniques as well as my leadership skills.
