Primarily a drummer/percussionist, Jeff B. has been studying, performing, and teaching music for 20 years. Working mostly as a free improviser, rock, and jazz musician, Jeff was an active performer in and around Boston and the Northeast for seven years in a variety of bands before recently relocating to Nashville. He has been actively involved in the Boston underground rock and experimental music scene, performing in venues such as the Middle East and Great Scott playing drums, percussion, keyboards, and electronics. He has toured regionally and nationally with the bands Sun Young, Cult & Leper, Listening Woman, Harmoos, and others. Teaching Philosophy: Learning to listen, open ears, and creative musicality are the end goals for all students. Learning technique is simply a stepping stone toward those goals. Students will discuss the music that moves them and will explore how it's made and how they can build their own musical language and practice. Lessons will guide students with fundamentals and larger concepts to help move toward a broad, exciting musical life. Jeff graduated from New England Conservatory in 2013 with a Master's in Contemporary Improvisation. He studied with Joe Morris, Anthony Coleman, Fred Buda, and others. He completed his undergraduate studies in Studio Music & Jazz at the University of Miami Frost School of Music in 2010. *** Lesson Details *** Lessons are determined on a student-by-student basis, but will include: Technique exercises (rudiments, sight reading, etc.) Listening and/or transcription exercises (depending on the level of the student) Improvisation and/or written pieces (solo or duo) Other topics covered depending on the student's needs and interests will include music theory, genre studies, etc. Seeking serious students. Students at a beginner's level are expected to work a minimum of 10-15 minutes a day between lessons. *** Travel Equipment *** Have my own car. *** Specialties *** Jazz, free jazz, rock, pop, improvisation, free improvisation

Jeff's lessons were perfect for me. With a careful attention to technique in a patient and calm atmosphere, I felt that I was able to really free up my playing and grow as a drummer in a short while! If you're looking for someone who makes it feel easy to grow as both a technical and creative drummer, Jeff is the one. I bet they're great with young students as well, super kind and respectful.
