    About Chris M.

I began my musical studies when I was 8 years old on the clarinet. In my teens, I switched to the guitar. I received a degree in music from the University of Western Ontario (Canada) and subsequently, an education degree from the University of Toronto (Canada). I play guitar (jazz, rock, classical), bass (electric) and piano. Along the way, I have gained valuable experiences and insights into teaching and performing music that have benefited my students over the years. I have been a studio guitarist and producer for many years and I love to share those experiences with all my students. I've also worked in the music industry for 20 years (EMI, RCA, BMG, Universal) in a number of roles and have produced over 50 recordings. Helping people be the best the can be musically and through expression on their instrument is a passion of mine. I've worked with many of the biggest names in the music industry as well. Recently, I led the launch of a national music education program between Carnegie Hall and the Royal Conservatory of Music that helps students not only learn more quick, but helps to raise the musical 'bar' of excellence for students and teachers. I perform regularly in southern California as leader of my own jazz quartet, on bass in an 85-piece concert band and in a great big band! So, I walk the walk every day (lucky me). Music is what I've been fortunate enough to do as my career and as my passion. I'm truly a lucky guy. I love to teach people about music – creating it and also appreciating it. Though I play and teach many styles, I will do my best help open up a new world of music to you. I have degrees in music and education as well private and classroom teaching experience. I prefer to teach students who want to read music (if they don't already) - notes and chord symbols - versus teaching tablature. I've found over the years, that this method opens up so much more repertoire for my students. And it doesn't matter if it's jazz, classics, rock or blues. Since I have a recording studio in my house, I also love record students so they can really hear their progress. I enjoy teaching production techniques as well (I've produced and played on over 50 recording, by EMI, RCA Records and other labels). Some students prefer to learn and progress through a method book, while others want to work on specific areas that have been hard to overcome. I'm happy creating a custom learning environment that suits you best. I hope to meet you soon and start sharing some music making! *** Lesson Details *** I love to teach people about music – creating it and also appreciating it.
