I've been going to Jason for a few months now and I have significantly improved my playing ability and increased my music knowledge. Lessons are tailored to what I want to learn and there has been noticeable improvement even over a short period of time.+ Read More
He is really patient and kind, and he got playing songs in days.
Jason tailors the course to a student's individual learning pace and needs. There is also a good combination between theory and learning cords to play a song. Technique is emphasized to build good habits and a foundation for future growth.
Amazing, fun, knowledgeable. I learned quickly and within the first weeks I had improved my playing.
For my first lesson it was informative and helpful to get back to playing again. It was a refreshing session.
I've been working with Jason for about a year now and have grown so much as a musician since we started. Jason is extremely good at assessing your skill level and your goals in order to place you on a path that leads you to your higher musical self. His methods of teaching are extremely efficient and effective for getting you to where you want to be and I always look forward to our next lesson. I'm proud to call Jason my instructor and friend.+ Read More
Jason Free is an excellent teacher. He is able to tailor lessons to the individual student's interest and experience. I really recommend him.
My kid really enjoys the lessons with Jason, he says that he is a nice teacher that shares some of his own experiences that he can relate too and makes the lessons fun.
Best instructor ever
Yes, he is top notch.
Though I was only able to take lessons with Jason for a couple months due to an unexpected move, I was able to learn a lot from him. I came in with very little guitar experience and no background in music. His lessons are very accommodating and I felt I walked away a little bit better every time. Jason is a great guy and it is easy to share your goals and ideas for the future with him. When working with Jason it felt like a team effort in order to help me reach my goals. In the short time I took lessons with Jason I learned a lot about the guitar and I am excited to build upon the music career he helped me to start. A definite Recommendation.+ Read More
Jason is a phenomenal instructor. As an older student who is not musically inclined and is just picking up the instrument seriously for the first time, I was apprehensive about taking lessons. Jason has made the process interesting, fun, and informative.
I have only been taking lessons for a few months and beyond learning songs, Jason has given me instruction on guitar maintenance (beyond the everyday care of the instrument) and music theory. I think his holistic approach to playing the guitar really sets him apart from other instructors. I always come away from each lesson feeling that I learned something new and valuable.
Jason really caters to the individual learning styles of his students. I travel often for work and he has found ways for me to continue to learn, even if I don't have my instrument with me. He is also tremendously knowledgeable and patient. If a certain style of learning doesn't seem to be sticking, he will find new and creative ways to teach until the idea resonates with the student.
I feel very fortunate to have found Jason as an instructor. I unreservedly give him the highest of recommendations.
The location is great (right by my house), his scheduling is flexible, online payment takes no time at all and perhaps best of all Jason is a great guy, very professional yet very personable and down to earth.
There is no doubt that Jason is a phenomenal guitarist. Very inspiring and encouraging. His guitar abilities are one of the best I have seen in person. Lessons are fun, interesting, and helpful. I have only been taking lessons for a little more than a couple months now, but I already see improvement.
It is great to take lessons with somebody who is both patient and encouraging at the same time. He is especially good at recognizing if the pace is getting too fast/slow and adjusting for that. I consider myself fortunate to have found such a good teacher.
Exceptionally Tallented Teacher and Musician
Jason is a gifted player, dynamic teacher, and he motivates me to play better and challenge myself.
I've been puttering around on the guitar since I was in my early 20's. I finally started taking lessons in my early 30's. Instructors I've had in the past were fine, but never challenged me. They were content to teach me to play whatever song I was interested in but never the theory behind it. They never seemed invested in my success. With Jason, it is completely different. He brings in a great mix of playing for fun while helping me play outside my ability and comfort zone.
First, he challenges me to play better. I'm not always happy while we are running chord drills with a stopwatch, but because of it, I am better, faster, and music is a lot more enjoyable to play when you are not thinking about where chords or scales are. He is quick to support what I do correctly, but also doesn't shy away from fixing things I do wrong or bad habits that I have developed. He also mixes in regular work on improvisation skills, reading TAB, and even writing your own music or solo work.
Next, he teaches me to be more accurate. If we are working on a song that is too fast or technical, heâll slow it down either by using software or recording a quick backing track. Then we both play and focus on accuracy. Itâs always a good feeling to play all the way through a song even if itâs at 80% speed.
Finally, Jason is simply a real standup sort of guy. He is punctual, communicates with his students regularly, organizes events where students can play, and takes a real interest in his students.
I wouldnât hesitate at all to recommend Jason to anyone of any skill or ambition level.
Highly Recommend Jason
When my son was 8, he really wanted to learn how to play guitar. We asked a friend of ours where their son took lessons (he is an excellent guitarist) and they highly recommended Jason. And I am very glad they did! Jason is an excellent teacher. He is great with kids and is an extremely talented musician. He tailors the lessons to my sons ability and encourages my sons creativity. After 3 years, my sons guitar and music skills have grown tremendously! He always enjoys the lessons with Jason, all the while improving on what he previously learned and also learning something new. Recently, Jason has put together recitals, where the students can show what they have learned in front of a small friends and family audience. Jason and the drummer in his band will perform with the student (learning the student's song almost overnight - which amazes me) when requested which really encourages the student to practice and get a feel for being on stage. My son has really enjoyed them and Jason does a great job of putting the shows together. My son and I could not be happier with the experience we have had with Jason. I highly recommend him.
Great lessons, great guy
I've been taking lessons from Jason for about 8 months now, and they've been awesome. I've been playing for several years, but never took formal lessons--just checking tabs and playing along with songs. My main goal was to learn everything I missed: the basics, theory, technique... After just a lesson or two, Jason had figured out my skill level, set up relevant exercises, and began incorporating theory into what I already knew. I've seen huge improvements to my playing in such a short time, and I'm a bad student that barely practices.
What's impressed me the most is how well he incorporates the theory and exercises into actively learning songs you're interested in.. it keeps you exercising the theory while still having fun playing more than just scales. Definitely recommended for anyone wanting to dive into theory, improvisation, etc.
You'll never find anyone better!
My daughter has been taking lessons with Jason since she was 5 years old, almost 6 years now. Watching her progress over the years has been amazing to see, and seeing how Jason's lessons evolve with her shows how versitile he can be. Starting out with very basic lessons, now to some complex chords; and various styles of music along the way. Julia has worked on songs that range from The Little Mermaid to Johnny Cash, Jingle Bells to The Civil Wars, and Jason has made it fun all along the way. He makes it challenging for her, while not so tough that she gets discouraged, all the while pushing her to try new techniques making her better. She looks forward to sitting with Jason every week.
Jason is a remarkably excellent teacher
I'm a moderately capable, mostly self-taught guitar player. I hadn't had a lesson in 40 years when someone recommended Jason to me. I have been impressed since my first lesson with Jason's engaging manner, his love of teaching, and most of all, his ability to teach any style or subject matter that I'm interested in. He has provided me a foundation in music theory and helped me expand my abilities to play in several styles. He makes learning a very enjoyable experience. He's a wonderful guitarist, and obviously loves and is dedicated to his profession. I strongly recommend him to students of any age and skill level. He's great!
Jason is an excellent teacher!
Jason is very conscientious of his clients and their parents. We are a Christian homeschooling family and he has made sure to abide by our beliefs in what music is used for and the content of the songs taught. He is extremely patient with my daughter and myself. I appreciate his teaching style; it is tailored to my daughter's level and interests. She has excelled in her ability to play for the glory of the Lord!
We are very fortunate to have Jason as our son's instructor
When our eight year old son Jake wanted to begin electric guitar lessons, we called a local music store who suggested Jason would be a good fit as an instructor for him. At that time, we had no idea we were beginning a wonderful relationship that would last more than 8 years, and continues today. Jason's personality made Jake feel welcome and comfortable right away. His teaching style kept Jake interested and challenged. We watched Jakeâs passion and musical ability grow with each lesson. Over the years, Jason has been a leader, a mentor, a role model, and a motivator. He helped Jake prepare for several auditions, going above and beyond to help him be successful. To this day, Jake never wants to miss a lesson and continues to learn a great deal from Jason.
Early in Jakeâs music education, we wondered how we would find an instructor as great as Jason when Jake âoutgrewâ him. But, we learned that Jason has so much to offer students at all levels. Jason has the knowledge and experience to provide instruction in a variety of music genres and music theory. He has the flexibility to tailor the lessons to help Jake with whatever he needs at the time. Those needs have changed dramatically from third grade to twelfth grade. But, Jason is happily up for the challenge.
We cannot say enough good things about our time with Jason!
Outstanding instructor! Highly recommended.
I have been taking lessons from Jason for almost two years. He is reliable, patient, and tailors my lessons to address my skills and interests. He also takes the time to provide instruction on music theory and techniques which round out the entire experience. I would recommend him to both young and adult students.
Best teacher I've ever had, period.
I've been taking lessons with Jason for about 5 years, and it's been fantastic. Jason is super-knowledgeable about technique and music theory, and incredibly patient. His lessons have always been tailored for me, and paced to match my level so that I can still make steady progress - and (just as importantly) have fun doing it. I've gone from stumbling to understand how to play, to playing whole songs, improvising, and analyzing progressions, and it's been great the whole time.
I ask a ton of music theory questions and he is more than willing to go into detail about any topic. He'll tab out solos, explain tiny nuances of how to to play riffs, and he knows how to approach everything to ensure that you understand - and that what you learned sticks with you.
If you want to work on a song or a technique, he'll help you do that. If you want to learn music theory, or guitar maintenance, or reading music, just ask, and he'll do that. I can honestly say that I've never had a better teacher in any subject, and that's not an exaggeration.
This product has outstanding musical benefits.
I taught music for 27 years and had many teachers myself. The method, expertise, and motivation provided in these lessons belongs on the top shelf----stellar. The approach to guitar is refreshing and comprehensive in out look and in scope. Multiple styles and elements are given focus, demonstration and practice in a fun way. I am at ease with the challenges and I look forward to reaching more and more competent levels that allow me to play music with real skill and genuine depth. For the first time in years, I am on the move and excited thanks to this man's expertise and understated caliber of music talent.
You gotta go to this guy.
I started taking lessons with Jason when I was only 9 years old. At age 13, I played my first show at a club in Baltimore. At 15, I played my first show at a club with my own band. At 18, I played at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago. None of these things would've been possible without Jason's guidance and teaching skill. He knew quickly what I wanted to do with guitar and put me on the road to doing it.
His experience is valuable in every aspect of playing guitar, really. Just a few months ago, I had an overuse injury in my arm from playing guitar. He just happened to have previously had the same injury himself, and his advice helped me overcome it in time for my tour in Chicago (disclaimer: he's not a doctor).
Do you need help with guitar maintenance? He can show you that. Wanna learn about songwriting? He does that, too. He does anything. Just let him know; he'll show you.
I plan on going to Jason for many more years.
