I've always been attracted to music since I was a little kid. However, I started formally taking trumpet lessons around the age of 10. I would go on to be in a plethora of concert and marching bands all throughout grade school. When I was 14, I acquired my first electric guitar. I immediately fell in love with its sound and I taught myself how to play. I spent much of my teenaged years in rock and acoustic bands in my around hometown of Alexandria Virginia. My abilities eventually earned me a spot in VCU's art program in Richmond where I would eventually get my bachelor’s degree. More than a decade later from when I first strummed a chord, I have also picked up bass, singing and piano respectively.
What drove me to pursue playing the guitar came from the passion of being able to create something that was truly my own. I hold the same ethos in my teaching today. Giving the student the tools in order to improve is vital when advancing on the guitar. I help the student explore what excites them about their instrument and help guide them into the next level. No one pupil is the same, so I make each lesson “student specific” in order for them to reach their goals quicker and easier. Whether it is learning your favorite songs, mastering the techniques to produce new sounds, or studying the art behind music composition my lessons can prove beneficial to anyone.
I look forward to working with you,
-Jason T.
