    About J. Scott P.

Hi, folks! My name is J. Scott P. and I can't wait to meet and talk music with you! I've been teaching in both public and private education since 2008 and have loved helping students gain confidence in their music. I went to East Tennessee State University where I participated in the world renown bluegrass music program and earned a master's degree in education. Like many of you my musical journey started with seeing someone playing guitar, and thinking, “Cool! I want to do that”. However, growing up in a family with no musical background and possessing zero natural ability, I had no clue what kind of adventure I was beginning. Despite these obstacles, and through the help of teachers, coaches, and mentors, I found that through developing good practice habits, listening to all kinds of music, and sheer grit I have developed into the musician my younger self would have been impressed with. With this unique perspective I can confidently say ANYONE can learn a musical instrument. By using a proven curriculum, listening exercises, and unwavering encouragement - it is my mission to help you achieve any of your musical goals. Here are some of my specific qualifications and experiences: -Graduated from East Tennessee State University with a master’s degree in education and certified to teach grades K-12 -During my time at East Tennessee State University I was a member of the world renowned Bluegrass and Country Music program -Served as a staff musician at the Augusta Heritage Center in Elkins, West Virginia -Founded and directed and after school music program for students in grades 4th-6th -Completed an Americorps service term where I helped manage and operate a record label focused on traditional American folk music -Produced, wrote, and hosted a radio program on the influential Americana station WDVX
