    About Janette G.

I am a diverse musician who is offering lessons on piano, keyboards, upright bass, and bass guitar for beginning and intermediate students of all ages. I had my first first piano lesson at age 6, and have been immersed in the music world ever since. I began with a solid grounding in classical piano for six years, and then spent many years playing keyboards in rock cover bands on both the east and west coast. As an adult, I discovered electric and upright bass and first completed my associates degree at Grossmont College. I then went to the Cole Conservatory of Music at Cal State University, Long Beach and received my bachelor's degree in music with honors, studying both classical and jazz bass, as well as gaining a solid grounding in music theory. I have played in rock bands, theater productions, symphony orchestras, baroque ensembles,German groups, Afro-Cuban groups, and jazz groups. I am currently active playing in the San Diego area. In the past year, I have played in several jazz groups, backed a vocalist who sings jazz standards, spent the fall season with a German band, and played with a Cuban group. I offer real-world experience for those interested in learning how to play in a group and perform in public. My first lesson with you or your child will be all about finding out what you want from music lessons. There are so many paths to take, and I want to find out what is most exciting to you and help you get playing the songs you like as soon as possible. In learning songs, we will build up you skills in many areas to help in reaching your goals. I have many years of experience working professionally with children, adults, and older adults with special needs, and offer an approach that will make learning a positive experience. I am looking forward to hearing from you. *** Lesson Details *** I am offering lessons in your home. *** Travel Equipment *** Students would need to have their own musical instruments and amplifiers, if needed. I would have my own bass,, music stand, and teaching material that I could bring to the student's home. *** Specialties *** With electric bass, we will work on learning songs you like, and make use of the Hal Leonard bass method for teaching a variety of genres and reading music. Upright bass starts with a good grounding in how to physically play the bass. With Piano - I can teach beginning piano, using several of the Bastion method books, including Piano Adventures for Adults, and a variety of books for younger students. I can get you improvising with a style of improvisation, starting with using chord notes, that is a good starting point. I also like to teach my students how to learn and have good practice habits, and make things fun!
