Experienced teacher of 37 years, specializing in the beginner/intermediate piano student! All ages welcome. Lessons are catered to the needs,desires and goals of each student. Not only will you be playing songs using chords and melodies in a short time, but you will also build a strong foundation of the basic fundamentals of music. This includes note reading, music theory, sight reading, and ear training and much more! Let's get started!

I am a pianist, award winning ensemble and choir director,  former public and private school teacher of all ages and subjects, including band, piano, choral, and music theory. I graduated from Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Music Education and minor in Elementary Ed. Choral music,  musicals, ensembles, and private as well as group lessons are some of my most satisfying experiences. My true passion is to instill in my students a genuine love for music. Any person of any age can learn to play music for a profession or just for pure enjoyment. I teach students to read music, play by ear, transpose, and expose them to contemporary music using chord sheets, based on their goals.

Jan has been teaching me basic to intermediate piano skills for many years (I'm a slow learner) and my new found passion for music is not only fun, relaxing & therapeutic but a great conversation starter! I never imagined a new talent could turn me into an extrovert. It's by far the wisest investment I've made in years. Highly recommend Jan to anyone!
