Jan is very professional.
Jan you are amazing! Your songs are amazingly awesome. Jacob, 10 years old
Jan is a fun and dynamic instructor whose patience and attention to the needs of her students has been instrumental in helping my daughter enjoy and thrive in her voice and piano lessons. While some instructors, in our experience, have been excellent musicians but poor teachers, Jan's style and flexibility make her an ideal person for passing on her knowledge to students, so that they in turn develop their own musical talents and shine. Many thanks, Jan, for your gifts!+ Read More
What I love about Jan is she tells it how it is and is always looking out for her students. I just started with her and she has already reached out to help my dream become a reality. Looking forward to continue working with her and excited to see what's in store for the future.+ Read More
Jan is very patient and knows what I need, not to mention funny and very pleasant. I am looking forward to the next session.
My daighter said "I like her, she's cool." That is a VERY BIG compliment!!! I was impressed with her vast musical knowledge and production experience. Seems like a wonderful opportunity to expose your kid to the creativity of music while still gaining a ramge of foundational musical knowledge at the same time.+ Read More
My 13 year old daughter has been taking singing lessons with Jan for a couple of months. Jan is an excellent instructor. She really takes the time to tailor the lessons to my daughter's objectives and goals. Jan conducts her lesson in a lively manner which keeps my daughter engaged at all times. Jan has a wealth of knowledge to share, whether you are taking lessons for personal enrichment or if you are serious about becoming a singer/songwriter.+ Read More
Jan was a great teacher! I loved how patient she was with my daughter and she always took extra time to make sure she got things right.
I have wanted to work with Jan since I saw her as a judge at the LAMN JAM Music Contests, her feedback to the artists was always spot on and I wanted to hear what she might have to say about my work and her suggestions. I have been lucky enough to have taken lessons and workshops with Jan for a couple months now and it has definitely had a big impact on my confidence as well as making me aware of what I need to work on. It is great to put yourself in a situation where a professional will be honest with you and help give you the tools to better your performance, this is exactly what I get out of working with Jan. You can sing out as much as you want, but listeners, friends and family usually just tell you how great you are and its hard to grow that way. Jan is kind but straightforward on what you need to do to better yourself as a performer. I highly recommend studying with Jan!+ Read More
I love to sing it´s just fun for me and it makes me happy. But I´m not a singer and don´t even want to go up on stage. I´m trying to be a songwriter and I was just visiting a workshop at the songwriting school of LA. And on this evening I met Jan the first time. At the moment I´m travelling and I never thought that I would stay in one city that long. But at this evening when Jan made this workshop I swear you guys, I hadn´t laugh that much for a long time. When she asked me if I´d like to come to the class I just had to say yes. It was a heart decision and I don´t regret it! This woman is a very talented singing teacher and also songwriter with a lot of experience, for sure. But she´s much more than that because you can have a REALLY bad week or day, but the second you walk into that class this woman saves your day! She´s just so funny! Every week I´m looking forward to that day. Of course the most people only want to learn how to sing or to perform but I think it´s also important to feel comfortable and accepted. And she gives everyone the feeling of being accepted and she takes care of every student. And just to be clear, of course it´s not all about fun and of course you´ll learn A LOT. I just want to say that you´ll be enjoying it to learn from her ;) Thank you Jan+ Read More
I had the pleasure of attending Jan's "Acting for Singer/Songwriters" class at The Songwriting School of Los Angeles. A door opened for me. I became more courageous. It was a process. And I am forever grateful to Jan for helping me uncover more of my soul's voice.+ Read More
The thing is, everyone wants to hone their skills when it comes to performance, but getting the skills isn't the only thing that you need to do. That is where Jan comes in, she can teach you how to sing, she can tell you when your act is not up to par. More importantly, she can teach you how to relate to your music (most likely you can't), and how to build a relationship with the audience in the short amount of time you're on stage (you probably don't know how to do that either). Jan has worked with people at every level and so she has really honed her craft when it comes to teaching. If you are a student of music performance, she can take you to that next level no matter where you are at. I've taken voice lessons in a private setting by a former vocal-music pro who has worked with former Mrs. Kentucky winners, and with teachers on the University/Collegiate level. Jan is the best I've had so far.
1. Come eager to learn, not eager to talk about your life story. A lot of students go to lessons and talk a lot. You don't want to do that, you will miss out on the instructions and performance philosophies that you need from her. Listen more than you talk.
2. Come with clear objectives. If you don't have them, spend time with her developing those objectives. She is an objective oriented person when it comes to teaching, be an objective oriented student.
3. She has really competitive prices for her teaching quality. The hour is worth it.
4. Come with a lot of respect, she will give you a lot of respect if not more. She treated me almost like I was an old friend, and she is a really charming lady. Be nice to her : )
5. She is a really nice person and won't hurt your feelings. She has really good social awareness so you don't have to be afraid of that. If you can drop your ego at the door and take criticism, go ahead and ask her for that extra bit that you need to get you even further. Have some skin in the game.
6. Don't waste your time trying to figure out how good of a teacher she is during your lesson, you can read that stuff online. Come to her studio to get work done.
7. Ask questions that she can give quick answers to (it helps her know that you're hungry to learn). Bring something to write with.
I've been working with Jan for almost a year's draft she has helped me immensely in progressing in my music career. She is truly a professional songwriter, voice coach, and producer. She also teaches classes in Acting for Singers which I have taken. She creates a fun and supportive atmosphere in her private lessons as well as her classes which makes attending them truly enjoyable. She always focuses in on what I need to learn and does it in a very positive way. Anyone who wants to develop as a singer would be really lucky to have the opportunity to study under her and to have her guidance.+ Read More
My daughter is 15 yrs. old and this is her first time ever taking any acting lessons. She enjoys her lessons & likes how Jan uses real life scenarios so she can relate to them in commercials and she says Jan is easy to work with!
So far I had 3 lessons with her and I already noticed my singing changed for good. She is a very thoughtful and attentive teacher. Also, she should have had ton of experience as she guides me to the right direction from the first lesson. Her teaching is not limited to singing techniques, but includes the whole package as how to sing and what should be in mind when singing. I highly recommend her for those who serious about singing.+ Read More
I took an 8 week course taught by Jan called Acting for Singers. She was incredibly helpful in teaching me how to perform as a singer/songwriter. She has a wealth of knowledge from her years of teaching and performing and was able to teach us exercises to help us perform on stage and convey the message of our song effectively. I definitely had to get out of comfort zone for some of the exercises but they changed my performance style immediately. She created a very safe environment for us to learn and told us from the outset that it was okay to make mistakes and not have everything be perfect. I was stretched every week I attended the class, but it gave me the confidence I needed to continue to push myself to perform.
I am so grateful for coming across Jan and would recommend her to anyone seeking to become more confident as a performer. She will help you tremendously.
I have really enjoyed my time spent in workshop classes with Jan! She is a very talented teacher and knows how to get things out of people that they didn't know they were capable of.
Her techniques and exercises are amazing to watch as the intended result will come out of the student that she is working on. I learned just as much watching other students in the class go through the techniques as I did during my own performances and critiques.
She has a beautiful presence and I instantly felt comfortable around her like I'd known her for a long time. I think that is so important to feel that trust and comfort when opening yourself and exposing things dealing with singing and performing.
I can tell that she is very passionate at what she does and she is VERY GOOD at it as a result. She wants to help people in a positive way and is very encouraging.
I also love how her exercises are not only physical but get you thinking ahead about positive wonderful things that are of your dreams; it helps you to envision and eventually attract the positive things that you dream of. For example, she had us describe our "perfect 24 hour day". That was an amazing concept to me. If you can envision your perfect day and your perfect circumstances, you are so much closer to actually achieving them! These exercises help and instantly translate to better singing and better performing as we witnessed in the class. She is full of these tricks and techniques!
I would highly recommend working with Jan. She has a wealth of experience and wisdom to share with as many students that are lucky enough to work with her.
If you're looking for someone who is professional, educated in her trade, easy to work with, extremely kind-hearted, and just plain knows her stuff, Jan is the one! My daughter has been taking lessons by Skype since February 2014 and has developed her singing and performing skills tremendously. Jan has been able to connect with her on deeper level than her previous singing teachers. My husband even commented on how he's noticed her self-esteem and confidence improve. We recently participated in a 5 week workshop with Jan. We drove 5 hours each way once a week just to study with her. I would give her more than 5 stars if I could!! : )+ Read More
I came into Jan's class having a different perspective on what the course was going to be. I had the mentality that we were only going to perform and get tips. But she went beyond that and made me see songwriting and performing in a different way. I want to thank her for making me step way out of my comfort zone. I was uncomfortable, but then it made me change as a person. I'm so thankful for the opportunity that I was even introduced to someone like her. I love how she inspired and cared about the young teens and young adults that she teaches. She is an impact to many and especially me, I will never forget all the advice she gave me!+ Read More

Jan is a very talented, inspiring teacher and a wonderful person. I've really enjoyed her performance class: 'Acting for Singers'. Her classes are challenging, creative and really get to the core of what you need to work on as a singer/performer, in a safe and comfortable environment. I always leave feeling inspired and very emotionally connected to my music.
Jan is very genuine in wanting to help her students achieve success. I highly recommend working with Jan!

I LOVE Jan!
Working with Jan has taken me to another level in my career that I don't feel I could have gotten to without her guidance, knowledge and teaching skill. Jan has the real-world information and contacts in the industry - there is no BS here. And it is all delivered from the heart with humor and incredible grace. She loves what she does and it shows.
Not only has my voice improved substantially but Jan has opened my range up and I'm confidently hitting notes other teachers told me were not within my reach. I finish each of my sessions with Jan feeling not only an incredible improvement in my vocal abilities but an increase in my confidence as a professional performer. No matter where you are at in your career, Jan is the person who will take you to the next level, and then the next.
I believe that working with Jan is key to my success and she's worth every penny.
Jan is what every teacher should strive to be, knowledgable, understanding, critical, down to earth, and personally has your best interest in mind. As a new student of hers, she's helped take my self-taught ability, to levels only imaginable for students who truly know what they desire for their career. I found myself struggling as a singer, writer, and performer. Since day one, she's brought me much farther with my knowledge and improvement vocally very quick. If there is any specialist that can figure out where you need improvement, a field that you will contribute all your passion to, Jan is the teacher for you.
Excellent in everyway
Jan was able to coach me both strategically as well as on every level of detail. I would recommend her to anyone.
Jan is a real pro
I have worked with Jan for the last 6 months and she has been a joy to work with. She shares techniques for helping her student connect with the song, so that singing is emotional and not just technical. We've both noticed a real improvement in my singing ability. I highly recommend Jan.
I have been working with Jan for about four weeks now, and already, I'm changing the direction in which I am chasing my dreams. The fact that she is experienced in every genre of acting, songwriting, music production, and singing, makes her the best possible teacher to receive lessons from. She is the type of teacher that doesn't care about going over the time limit just to further explain something, listen to what you have to say or to give more direction. She has written her own book on songwriting called, "Once More With Feeling" where she explains everything in great detail, step by step. Anything you want to work on, she will be right behind you all the way. I had so many doubts about taking an online course in singing for many reasons, but I was SO WRONG. Instead of getting a decent teacher that you can work with face to face in your area, get the BEST teacher and work with her in the convenience of your own home. It's worth it, plus cheaper! She is to say the least, phenomenal, I am already seeing results and I only just had my fourth lesson. She has a reputation for making artists' celebrity status, with just a little drive and persistence you could have a worthwhile time learning with Jan.
Great Attentive and Innovative Teacher!
I love taking lessons with Jan! She is a breath of fresh air. I have worked with 4 separate voice teachers in the past and Jan is easily the most unique and fun teacher I have had. Her techniques will bring your performance and voice to a whole new level. The best part is Jan gives each of her students personalized attention. Take a lesson with her you won't regret it!
Jan is wonderful to work with!
I worked with Jan thru skype while living in Australia on my songwriting and singing, she is a joy to work with really caring and helped me challenge myself to become a better songwriter. There were even days I woke up at 4am Australian time just to work with her! The whole experience was great! I then had the pleasure to work with her in person to record some of the songs we had been working on as I traveled to LA for a few weeks. Her techniques really helped me bring out certain emotions and I can't express how much I enjoy working with Jan.
Jan is an excellent teacher! She is very creative, fun to work with and puts heart into everything she teaches. Her professional experience and knowledge cover a broad range of musical talents which is perfect for me because she is able to help me with my vocal techniques, dramatic expression and also my songwriting skills. She has opened my eyes to discover the whole story in my songs and uncover deeper emotions in my performances. My wife & daughter have also taken singing lessons from Jan and enjoy her very much.
Jan's direction gets results!
Jan is one of the most nurturing people I've had the pleasure of being around. She's constantly helping me with all aspects of my career, including gaining my own students. She takes the time to ask how I'm doing personally and does whatever she can to encourage me. Jan has given me many tools that have greatly increased my skill as a vocalist, and the things she has done for my songwriting are revolutionary! She's been able to get me to think of my songs as a story, with the angle of thinking about writing a movie script, an entire story before I even begin to write lyrics. It's me write much better songs and I could not have done that without her. I highly recommend!
I went to a 5-hour workshop with Jan with the intention of creating an emotional breakthrough to free up my singing after years of trauma that I allowed to stop me from singing.
I got to experience a very supportive and helpful journey to experience my grief and pain and transform it, in order to access a sweet place that is allowing me to sing again. Just like that.
I also got to witness and share in the journey with others finding a more powerful place to come from and hearing their voices shift into a fuller expression of their gifts.
I am grateful for the opportunity and would recommend it to anyone, whatever level you are at, to access more of your deeper self and to see what else you might find with Jan's magical toolbox.
Jan is awesome, easy going, and helps me make great progress quickly!
I have been studying with Jan by skype for 2 years. I live in New Mexico and have enjoyed our work together very much. This allows me to study with a world class teacher right in my own home
JAN LINDER-KODA IS A+
JAN HAS MADE LEARNING PIANO FUN. I'M 52. SO IT TAKES A LITTLE LONGER TO CATCH ON. JAN IS VERY PATIENT WITH ME. PLAYING THE PIANO IS SOMETHING I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO. THANKS TO JAN, I'M DOING JUST THAT. I WOULD RECOMMEND ANYONE WHO WANTS TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY THE PIANO TO LEARN FROM JAN. SHE MAKES YOU EXCITED ABOUT GOING TO YOUR LESSONS.
