I have assisted in teaching Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology as well as Infection Control techniques and instruction in measuring vital signs within the Uniondale School District for the past two school years. I have observed that students struggle with pronunciation of these Latin and Greek derived terms and have developed fun techniques that reinforce memorization and pronunciation. Additionally I was the TA for Beginning Speech at LIU-Post. Part of the course focused on identifying where sounds can become “trapped” in the body as well as where different sounds resonate. Students then recorded those sounds using the International Phonetic Alphabet. Finally, I have privately tutored individuals, mostly ranging from ages 2 to 30, over the last 13 years. The sessions for my younger students focused on language acquisition and pronunciation, reading and writing, math (traditional and Common Core), and the development of fine motor skills. Whereas, tutoring sessions for my secondary and post-secondary students primarily focused on resume development, research paper analysis, measuring vital signs, pronunciation of medical terminology, understanding human anatomy and physiology, and pharmacy technician certification examination (PTCE) prep.
