Beginner

Helo, I teach piano lessons for beginners and anyone looking for a fun and interactive lessons to build up their piano basics. We may start by learning about notes, keys and chords and reading music scores; we may tap into improvisations. I am here to help you play your favorite songs by ear. Whether you have passion for classical music or pop songs, I'm here to help. Child and adult beginners are welcome.

Hi I am enthusiastic in helping beginners to learn to play piano confidently. I adjust flexibility to paces of individual students to ensure they build up strong basics in music, including postures, music theories, sight-reading, key and chords.  Also, I encourage students to be creative and express themselves through their music playing. As a side note, I'm a pop music lover and I'd be more than happy to share tips on improvising on songs, and learning to play songs by ear. My wish is to let students enjoy their music playing through in-depth understanding and connection with the music pieces.

My background (for context): I have a degree in music performance (on a different instrument) which included a piano proficiency exam as a requirement, so I do know piano and I've personally have a lifetime of music lesson from beginning to graduation. I'm not a pianist though and I didn't study pedagogy. I have a 11 year old boy and 6 year old girl. I decided that it would be best to find a teacher for them rather then try to teach them myself.

Jamie did a excellent job of teaching each (separately) and her methods matched each child's temperament, attention span and pace of learning.  The differences between an 11 year old boy and 6 year old girl means that the approach to teaching would be very different. Jamie adapted and transition quickly from the very first lesson. I really appreciate the skill of being able to teach each child differently based on their age, pace and personality and not to just insist on a single fixed method.
