I seriously love teaching music. Having taught at a Montessori based school in Indianapolis for 17 years, I'm often the first point of contact for music for children [including my almost 5 year old]. Seeing how enthusiastic they are about making music is why I do what I do. It's amazing to see how they develop over the 10 year span [if they stay at the school for the duration]. All of them have solid technical, rhythm [everyone can play a beat on drumset], and song playing & writing skills. Do the right things for long enough and kids can play. And, it's an integrated experience...mental, emotional, physical, social, cultural. And, this process is the same for adults. To check out a recent tune by the seniors at our school, check out https://soundcloud.com/jameyfaulkner/childrens-house-seniors-fixed-form-50-1-26-16-am-g-f-e-c. For guitar [and basic drumset], I storm the city daily. I travel to the homes of wonderful clients on all sides of town. I may not drive forever, but right now I have the energy. And, I enjoy meeting everyone's pets. I often work with students which need extra creative thinking. Whether they had a teacher that only taught one way or just want to move their playing to a new level, I adapt. My intention is to create the best possible learning scenarios from where I meet each student, including those who are uniquely-abled. My essential philosophy is that everyone has musical genius. Discovering it is our goal. And, often my job is to convince or re-convince students that it is there. We work together to experience music making in new ways. I have 2 degrees...Classic Guitar Performance from California State University and Master of Science, Music Technology from the Indiana School of Music. I teach traditional classical guitar to experimental techniques and everything in between. 25 years of experience has taught me more about how to engage students in music than the degrees could ever deliver. I've published two guitar books, with many more on the way. I also build and maintain a lesson website, the Guitar Path. I released 12 stone row, a solo fingerstyle record in 1999. If you are interested in fingerpicking [fingerstyle guitar] & composition, we have this covered. I can share open/alt tuning exploration methods and keep you busy for decades. Building a guitar practice takes time and care. Helping students to enjoy this process is always the goal. I teach all styles and levels of guitar. I have taught for over 20 years including college courses, Montessori primary, and with uniquely abled clients. Though I have a degree in Classic Guitar from CSU, Northridge, I'm primarily a songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist. 12 stone row, a solo fingerstyle record was released in 1999. I also played bass in The Language for 2 years in Indianapolis. Currently, I work on multiple music production teams in Indianapolis. *** Lesson Details *** That you want to play guitar is proof that you can do it. Drive is central to success, and learning to play well is a relatively simple process with positive learning experiences. Curriculum includes basics, chords, melody/scales, reading, music theory, songwriting, improvising, and more. *** Specialties *** Methods are a blend of traditional and modern approaches.

Jamey has a natural way to engage children. My grandson was entrigued by his first lesson and excited to share what he had learned in his first lesson.

My search for a guitar teacher was a long one. I asked around and would travel to meet with different "instructors". There just wasn't that spark to learn which could have been as much my fault as theirs. THEN I asked a fellow session musician and he recommended Jamey. I was a bit apprehensive but went ahead and made contact. It was/is one of the best things I did for my playing. Jamey opened up different avenues to the fretboard and the instrument. I was blown away by his passion to teach and to impart the immense knowledge he has worked so hard to accumulate. He has a natural gift and through his teaching, I know he loves what he does. A good teacher knows how to evaluate the student and, from there, communicate with them on there level. Jamey, thank you for the continued help and being my Yoda. I recommend Jamey to anyone from beginner to "Expert".
