Learn piano in a fun and innovative way - Thinking creatively outside the box to make learning fun!

Piano lessons will be unique with me because I am privy to all genres of music. From a students perspective, I want a teacher who is knowledgeable but who also makes learning fun and interesting. My approach will be to practice the technical things such as: notes, sight reading, key signatures, and chord progressions while saving time in our lesson to have fun and thinking beyond the "dry" technical lessons. Not only will I work to improve your music knowledge, I will work with you to develop creative skill and musical ideas. For those looking to go in another direction then classical training, my lessons will be geared toward chord recognition, music creation, and music theory. Do you know of songs you always wished you knew how to play? We will break them down and learn how to play them once we get down the basics. Music is something that is coded and once you learn the rules you will have the ability to create your own music!

    About James M.

Hello, my name is James M. and I was first introduced to piano when I was 4 years old. My Mom brought me to lessons once a week for 15 years! To remember every note, my instructor came up with creative and imaginative names that make it easier to remember. In our lessons we will spend the first half studying and identifying notes, key signatures, time signatures, and scales. You know, all of the fun stuff.. Then, in our second half of the lesson, we will open it up to learning chords, learning new music, and learning techniques to becoming a successful pianist. This is where we can listen & transcribe your favorite songs! What is important to me is: 1. That you are learning something new 2. That you are developing musical skills 3. That you are interested and having fun! Learning how to play piano and everything that comes with it can be a bit overwhelming at times, like putting a complicated puzzle together. My job will be to teach you how to piece everything together one step at a time. You will notice the progress you make and will hopefully want to learn more and more!
