    About James G.

I'm a bassist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and actor. I received my BA in Music (with a Classical Double Bass focus) from California Polytechnic State University in 2017 and I've been a professional freelance musician since 2010; primarily working in the state of California. My love for music started at an early age (8). After moving from my birth home of Suffern, NY to Los Osos, CA, I quickly developed a naturally gifted ear towards popular music styles: classic rock, contemporary pop, heavy metal, and then later: jazz, classical, electronic and beyond. After graduating high school, I decided to pursue both a Jazz Studies (AA) and Music Performance (AA) degree at Cuesta Community College from 2008-2014. Later in 2015, I was awarded best "Community College Jazz Combo" by Downbeat magazine. In 2016, I was awarded a one-year membership to the Jazz Bass School with John Patitucci through Artist Works. In 2018, I received IMDB movie credit for acting and performing in the film Destination Wedding staring Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder. In August of 2018, with award winning jazz orchestra arranger/engineer George Stone, produced and completed my old band Green to White's 2nd and final album entitled "Technologically Sound". During that same year I joined the band Moonshiner Collective lead by singer songwriter Dan Curcio. For 6 months in 2019, I performed and toured as an musical actorv in the show Million Dollar Quartet through San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre & PCPA Pacific Conservatory Theatre. I love learning from all my students while inspiring them to purse their own passions with music and life. I look forward to meeting with each and everyone of you!

I took around 15 lessons for bass guitar with James and really enjoyed it. James was able to tailor the experience for what I wanted, which was heavy on music theory, but still made sure we applied the theory to the instrument. I had prior experience with some music theory and playing, but hadn't touched my bass in almost 10 years. James was able to figure out exactly where to pick up, provided great materials, and kept me engaged. James is very knowledgeable, a great player, and a cool cat.

James is a highly qualified instructor and was very thoughtful in answering my questions. I was impressed with the amount of resources he had on hand, such as worksheets, method books, sheet music, etc. I would definitely recommend James for anyone curious about learning music theory and/or the many instruments he plays.
