Music fills virtually my entire life. When I was 12 years old I picked up my dad's old guitar, played a few chords, and haven't put it down since.
I am currently studying Composition at Macalester College, but my experience goes far beyond the classroom. I sing in the advanced Concert Choir, as well as in Macalester's premier acapella group, and I am the frontman of a locally prominent band. I have been performing since I was 14, and have opened for several noteworthy artists, including Lion Babe, Lil' Dickie and T-Pain.
With me, students can expect to not only learn the guitar but also invaluable performance techniques, music theory, music history and more. Whatever your musical goals, be it acoustic songwriting like Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran, shredding guitar solos like Jimi Hendrix or Joan Jett, or intricate rhythmic strummings like John Frusciante or Nancy Wilson, I am determined to help you succeed.
For a semester, I taught a creative writing class to adults with developmental disabilities. Although this was not music related, I gained invaluable experience teaching people with special needs from many different backgrounds and at many different places in their lives.+ Read More
Twice a week, I would perform a 2-hour setlist of popular songs from the '60s to now. I would sing and accompany myself on acoustic guitar. Singing for two hours straight in the late morning forced me to be very careful with my vocal technique, so I wouldn't hurt my voice.+ Read More

Jake is an incredibly talent and patient instructor. He helped my daughter and was not only great at teaching guitar but also great at teaching music theory at the same time.
Jake was my instructor for a year and not only was he fantastic but extremely patient with me. He would even let me record his playing so I could watch where I was making mistakes. Don't think twice call Jake!!
I took lessons with Jake for several months before he had to attend college and I learned various songs at a level that was pretty advanced. He was very patient and it was a great way to get going on the instrument and learn a bit of music theory. Being able to play songs I liked was encouraging and while I'm still taking lessons online, I think the chops I learned with Jake have helped me tackle new songs by myself. Thanks so much!!+ Read More
