Hi, my name is Jake G. My main job as a music instructor is to help you as a student reach your goals and ensure you're having a good time. I believe studying music should be fun and rewarding. We all play music for different reasons: as a hobby, as something to share with friends, a family tradition or a love of performance. I want to help you achieve whatever your personal goals as a musician are and to help you have fun learning. In the spring of 2011 I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Popular Music Performance Program at The University of Southern California. I studied classical composition before I switched to Pop Music, and Double Bass before switching to Guitar. I love learning and I love teaching; sharing what I've learned is the most rewarding. *** Lesson Details *** I enjoy all aspects of Songwriting, and I love sharing my passion with my students. I generally focus on: Developing Inspiration, Song Structure, Rhyme, Meter, Melody and Harmony. Whether you love Top 40 Pop or Indie Rock, I'd love to help you develop your songwriting skills. Playing Guitar is a blast and I like to get my students playing songs they know as quickly as possible. I teach Country, Blues, Rock (Modern, Indie, Classic), Folk, Bluegrass, Pop and Jazz; Fingerstyle as well as Flatpicking. Bass is the glue holding any group together, and developing a great time feel is essential. As with guitar I teach Country, Blues, Rock (Modern, Indie, Classic), Folk, Bluegrass, Pop and Jazz. I also teach Theory and Aural Skills and can tutor these individually or incorporate them into your lessons program on your instrument. *** Studio Equipment *** The in-Studio lessons are taught in the dining room with practice amps and recording equipment. Seating is available. No pets. Parking is open in any uncovered spot. *** Travel Equipment *** I'll provide an amplifier, and I expect the student to have their own instrument. *** Specialties *** For Guitar and Bass I teach a wide range of styles including, but not limited to: Country, Rock (Classic, Indie, Modern), Bluegrass, Blues, Motown, and Jazz. I teach all types of songwriting, from Great American Songbook styles to Contemporary Country. I also teach the Theory and Aural Skills appropriate for the student's goals; whether that means using Solfege or a number based system, or reading sheet music or simple chord charts.

Jose is enjoying his lessons and thinks Jake is working with him nicely and being patient. I believe Jose has one more lesson and then we will need to decide next steps. thanks

Jake must have the patience of a saint, to put up with us beginners. Jake is a good instructor, and is constantly correcting, teaching, encouraging, and trying for the best results in a student. He is good at his job...

Best Positive Attitude! Jake is extremely polite, friendly and positive. He is also very patient. My son likes that Jake always makes sure he's "got it" before moving forward with the next thing. We're very pleased with Jake and my son is having fun learning from him!
