Dear prospective student, I'm J. I compose music for theatre and dance companies as well as teach privately. I've just returned from England, where I completed an MA in electroacoustic composition at The University of Sheffield. I also hold a bachelor's in classical piano from DePauw University and an MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Arts.
Music has taken me to many different places! I've worked in NYC, Ghana, England, Canada, and the US West coast. In 2017, I composed and arranged music for "MESSIAH", a two-hour dance showcasing traditional and contemporary sounds. My music has been premiered in NYC and the UK. I hope to share with you the many types of music I've encountered--from Afro-Cuban to English folk.
Currently I am working on my second album of electronic music, freelancing as a composer, and teaching piano and acoustic/electronic composition. I look forward to hearing from you!
I co-produced a computer music conference aimed at providing a space for marginalized computer musicians to perform and present research. This project was funded in part by an Arts Council England grant.
