    About Jacquelynn W.

Jacquelynn W. is a musician, actress, and masters level music therapist candidate. She teaches private music lessons in voice, beginning piano and flute. Originally from Maryland, Jacquelynn studied voice under Polly Par Corretjer and flute under Melinda Wade-English and competed and placed in many state voice competitions. Jacquelynn then moved to Boston to pursue a degree in vocal performance from Berklee College of Music. After graduating with highest honors in 2011, Jacquelynn moved to Los Angeles after accepting an internship to work in film and music at Playtone Production Company. Then, Jacquelynn relocated to Pittsburgh where she worked for a private lessons studio teaching over 20 students. After, a brief period in Pittsburgh, Jacquelynn returned to Boston to pursue a Master's degree in Music Therapy and Mental Health Counseling. She graduated in May of 2014 with highest honors. Jacquelynn has become very successful performing with her band at a various music venues and restaurants. Jacquelynn is able to teach many different genres of music such as classical, jazz, pop and country. Jacquelynn creates lessons that are centered on the student’s interests to keep them motivated and engaged while teaching the importance of technical facility and musicianship. *** Lesson Details *** I conduct my lessons with an emphasis on students musical interests while promoting the development of technical facility. Each lesson begins with a series of warm ups targeted to promote the students individual technical growth on his/her instrument. Then, we progress into song study. However, no lesson I teach is the same as every student as every student has unique wants and needs that change with every lesson. I like to create a fun environment that promotes the freedom and comfort for students to explore their instruments and grow. I have taught for many years and I have found that I am easy-going, understanding and always professional in lessons. I had so many wonderful kind teachers that sincerely inspired me when I first began my musical studies and that same passion, love of music and empathy is what I strive to bring to my own lessons. *** Studio Equipment *** Lessons in the living room, piano, recording software, flute, guitars, waiting area for parents *** Travel Equipment *** Me - stands, tuners, metronome, possibly keyboard/piano if necessary, stereo, computer Students- will be required to purchase certain books, instrument, blank CDs or device to record lessons *** Specialties *** I have been trained classically my entire life on voice and flute. However, Berklee college of Music really trained me to be a singer of all genres. I stress good technique and classical is a good tool, it does not allow for gaps in facility. Thus, when working with a student I I make sure that we focus both on classical technique and whatever genre they want to excel in, I show them how to connect the classical to the genre of their choice. I am a trained performer with vast experience and I have many tools that can help people with problems such as stage fright really embrace performing. For instance, I will right words connected with an emotion on flashcards and flash them and make singer act them out while performing a piece, it helps show that if you sing the meaning of the piece and try to share that, nerves tend to be easier to deal with. I have also trained in Los Angeles with the Aaron Speiser Acting Studio and am more than able to coach with monologues and scen study/help a performer really delve into the character of their piece.
