The first time I played a drum set was in 3rd grade music class. I was hooked. I now love the feeling of getting a piece of music, scratching through it a few times, making mistakes, fixing mistakes, rehearsing, rehearsing more, then playing it on stage for a stale audience that ends screaming for an encore. In Elementary School I experienced 2 types of music lessons. #1 Lessons that were too structured and boring because students were not able to have success at each lesson. The focus was on the structure vs. enjoyment. #2 Lessons that were very fun and challenging to work towards because students could see progress each week. From that experience I am very confident that my enthusiasm towards learning percussion will be challenging and rewarding. My music career has taken me anywhere from small church venues to theater orchestras including: -Kensington Community Church (Troy, MI) -The Rochester College Concert Band (Rochester, MI) -The Box Theatre (Mt. Clemens, MI) -Hope Community Church (Mt. Laurel, NJ) -Liberti Church (Center City Philadelphia) -Epic Church (Center City Philadelphia) *** Lesson Details *** You will soon learn that I am reliable, organized and high energy. Lessons are organized but flexible just like any good drummer. Objectives: #1 You will be on the fast track in school music programs. (You will do better in other classes as well) #2 You will learn to be self-disciplined with practice. (You will have more confidence in challenging situations) #3 You will be more confident in your ability, musical and non-musical. Typical Lessons: -We will review the previous lesson to measure progress and make any corrections necessary. -New and challenging material will be offered with instructor help. -Students will take the new material home to practice. Practice: I know that the best students we turn out are the students who practice the most. 99% of the learning comes through practice. No one learned to walk in 5 minutes, just like no one learns music in 5 minutes. Practice and mistakes are the difference between average and unbelievably good. If you want to be good the time spent in the lesson is just the recipe. You (student) are the one who makes it happen through regular practice. I remember hating practice sometimes when I was a kid. Practice should be fun. Focused practice should be really challenging and really fun. The feeling of satisfaction going from not being able to play something to learning it and nailing it is the best! This only comes through practice. Depending on level after basic lessons (1-7 months) students will be able to keep simple time, have basic ability to use all tools in their drum kit and be able to include simple fills. *** Studio Equipment *** Studio specifically for drumming, an electronic drum set, an acoustic set, amps, recording equipment, seating for parents with video feed so that you can check in during lessons. Students should be able to practice anywhere anytime. They don't need fancy equipment, just willingness to practice. I can help you get creative! *** Travel Equipment *** To be determined based on the student's needs and location. *** Specialties *** On a typical day you will catch me listening to and playing songs by: Bastille, Imagine Dragons, Paramore, Lorde, RHCP, Adele, Hillsong, Coldplay, U2, Zac Brown Band, Cream, Bon Jovi, Pink Floyd, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Journey, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, the Stones, Sugarland, Blake Shelton, Earth, Wind, Fire; ZZ Top, Van Halen, Ted Nugent, Diamond Rio, Boston, Bob Seger, Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, The 4 Tops, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Bob Marley, etc.
