My name is Jacob B. and I’ve been playing cello since 2009. I started playing cello at a large public middle school along with 40 other students all at the same time. A couple years later I started taking private lessons and really, like really really, hated it. I had three different instructors, each of them I thought were more boring than the last, because it never seemed to me like the instructor ever really cared about what happened during the lesson, so long as they got their paycheck at the end. So I decided to try to learn how to practice effectively on my own, without the help of private instructors that would just bore me to death, and that’s exactly what I’d like to teach you.
It’s very possible to be a good musician without practicing well, don’t get me wrong. But my goal is essentially to teach you what you need to know so that you don’t need me anymore (which is a terrible thing for me, but good thing for you). So if you’re ready to learn how to learn how to practice, please let me know.
With the New World Youth Symphony Orchestra I was given the opportunity to play with the best musicians in the state and was able to perform in places such as Chicago's Cultural Center and New York's Carnegie Hall.
