    About Jaclyn B.

*** Meet the Tutor *** Truth be told, personalities blending well is often more important to a good tutor-student team than any qualifications, so let's start here. I'm an avid reader, gamer, and writer, and I'm a casual cosplayer (meaning I make and wear costumes from multimedia stories at conventions). Students with an interest in the typically "nerdy" subjects and hobbies have enjoyed my tutoring in the past, as much as I enjoy teaching them. But I am also a tutor, so I am an intellectual at heart. In short, I can show equal enthusiasm discussing the meaning of warfare in the latest Wonder Woman film as I would captioning a screenshot of a video game. *** Tutoring Experience & Style *** I gained my level two CRLA tutoring certification while attending Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). In my tutoring experience, I have instructed second graders up to adult students on various topics. Even so, most of my students have been from middle school to high school in age. While acquiring my tutoring certification, I also composed study guides on select topics for the university's learning center. The subjects I've tutored range from English literature, writing, reading comprehension, study and computer skills, SAT reading and writing preparation, pre-algebra, Microsoft Office, and geometry. I have also worked with students with IEP's, learning disabilities, or English as a non-native language, but please note that I am not specifically certified to do so. My tutoring sessions have varied from hour long sessions once a week to three-hour sessions five days a week. In all cases, I have always sent reports to parents and/or teachers for each session. *** Lesson Details *** Overall, my tutoring methods involve tailoring lessons to fit a student's learning style. This has proven to help them to realize they can accomplish what they once believed was too difficult and equips them with an understanding of how to best apply their skills to any obstacle. My goal as a tutor isn't just to teach each student, but to show them how to enjoy learning and provide them with the confidence to be self-reliant both in school and in life. *** Travel Equipment *** Textbooks • Citation handbook • World history • Creative writing guides • Writing prompts and exercises Other Supplies • Pens, pencils, erasers, and highlighters • Notebooks • Assorted writing prompt supplies *** Specialties *** • British Literature • American Literature • Postcolonial Literature • Creative writing (fiction) • Poetry fundamentals • Screen and playwriting fundamentals • Narrative design
