Experienced private flute teacher of 8 years who has a Bachelor of Music, students of all ages and levels are welcome! Whether you are picking up the flute for the first time, if you have been playing for years, or are coming back to the flute after taking a break, I would love to teach you. My philosophy is to make sure each student has a solid foundation and gains all of the tools necessary to one day become their own teacher. I will help you identify difficulties that you have in your playing, provide you with a helpful solution, and make a personalized plan to help you achieve your goal.

Beginners: For those of you who have no musical experience, don't worry! I will teach you everything you need to know to get started on the flute. We will work on reading music and basic flute playing techniques such as making a good sound, which fingers to press down, and how to play in time. Or maybe you already play another instrument and are starting to learn flute as a secondary instrument. If that is the case, I will be able to teach you at an accelerated rate since you already know some music basics.

Intermediate Players: For those of you who have at least one to two years of experience playing the flute on a regular basis, we will continue to enhance your skills. We will work on areas such as tone production, rhythmic stability, technical facility, sight reading, and clarity of articulation. At this stage in your development, I believe it is very important to also work on your approach to learning a new piece of music and practice techniques. It is difficult to learn a new piece of music if you aren't learning in an efficient manner. A lot of time could be saved practicing if your approach to learning a new piece of music is carefully planned out.

Advanced Players: For players who are around five years of playing and onward, you already have a good flute foundation and efficient practice techniques. You are able to problem solve and come up with solutions to your issues, but you may not know what exactly is needed to take your performing to the next level. You may be considered a good flute player, but you want to know how to become a great flute player. I will use standard repertoire, etudes, and advanced exercises to help you achieve your goals. Being a great musician isn't just about playing what is on the page. If it was, music would sound boring. You must be able to read between the musical lines and deliver your own interpretation of the composers intentions. Every note you play must be played purposefully and with musical intent. This can be achieved many different ways, but we will work on usage of tone colors, shaping phrases, and musical inflection.

About Jackie V.

Qualifications:
I am an American flute and piccolo performer/teacher who graduated with my Bachelors of Music from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi with a specialization in Music Education. I also have a K-12 Texas teacher certification which was obtained after a rigorous yearlong teaching internship. My teaching experience includes being the flute studio instructor at the Long Lake Camp for the Performing Arts for the Summer of 2014 in Long Lake, NY.

Performing:
Not only am I a qualified teacher, but I am also an avid flute performer as the flute is my primary instrument. During high school, I performed in the Texas Music Educator’s Association 4A All-State Band. In college, I was selected to perform in the National Flute Association’s Collegiate Flute Choir at the national convention for three years in a row in 2014, 2015, and 2016; only 18 collegiate flute players were selected nationally for this honor each year. During the summer of 2016, I studied abroad in Vienna, Austria in the IES Summer Music History and Performance Program. Additionally, I was the winner of the 2015 Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s First Annual Concerto Competition in the Woodwind Category and have performed in masterclasses with Amy Porter, Leone Buyse, Ransom Wilson, and Marianne Gedigian.

Current:
I currently give private flute lessons to middle and high schoolers in Texas. My future plans include furthering my studies at UNT to obtain a Masters of Music In Flute Performance.

Lessons:
Students benefit from well qualified teachers, and success in learning frequently depends on finding the right Flute Instructor; someone who knows the subject well and understand how to inspire others. Taking private flute lessons with me is a great way to improve your musical skills and bring you to new level of flute playing. One-on-one lessons will help you to become more successful and will be a great advantage because I will be able to create lessons plans specifically designed to fit your needs. The number one reason why most of my students take private lessons is so they can be continuously reaching their full potential. I would be more than happy to help you to become the best flute player you can be. Being an alumna of TAMUCC, and holding a teaching certificate, I can fulfill all of your flute education needs.
Please message me, if you have any questions about private flute lessons.
