Hello there. I'm a native of Manchester, England now living/working/teaching in Washington Heights, NYC. I am a professional working bassist who thrives on sharing my knowledge of my craft with others who wish to learn. I have been teaching bass for 10 years and playing for 15. I also teach guitar and piano. I started teaching bass 10 years ago to fellow students (music/non music students) at South Cheshire College in the North West of England. When I began my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Jazz at Middlesex University (London), I continued to teach privately. I also have experience teaching ensembles. I taught a rhythmic awareness class for 6+ people over a summer at Middlesex University. When I moved to the US I resumed my private teaching classes. I have taught in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Nashville, Tennessee and New York, New York. I have had gigging experience both on land and sea, having played in the showband on both NCL (Norwegian Cruise Lines) and CCL (Carnival Cruise Lines.) I have also played in some off Broadway productions and regularly continue to perform with various ensembles around the City and Tri-State area. I have a strong grasp of music theory and specialize in Jazz. I believe ear development to be the most important skill in music as the ear is what we use to enjoy music after all! However I am a confident reader and will gladly help my students to develop their reading skills. I am proficient in a wide variety of styles such as Jazz, Funk, Latin, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop, Blues etc. So just about anything you'll want to learn, I'll be able to help you.

    Experience

    Jazz Bassist

    Feb, 2016 - Present

    Imraan Khan Jazz Quartet

I am the bassist for Imraan Khan's jazz quartet. We play a mixture of straight ahead jazz, latin jazz, bossa nova and contemporary tunes at various different locations in the city and Tri-State area. This gig really keeps on my toes and helps develop those walking bass lines!

    Show Band Bassist

    Oct, 2016 - Dec, 2016

    Norwegian Cruise Lines

I played in the Manhattan Band on board the Norwegian Getaway for 2 months. The band played a mixture of jazz/pop/rock 3, sets a night, everyday of the week.

    Latin Bassist

    Jan, 2016 - Present

    Sangha Tierra

Sangha Tierra is a 10-piece band from the New York City/New Jersey Area that mixes World & Latin music influences. I recently joined the band as the bassist and now we have never sounded better! We play a mixture of originals and covers from the likes of Santana, Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder plus many more! This is a really fun gig and has opened my mind (and ears) to a lot of different latin styles of music. Gig details can be found on Sangha Tierra's website - http://www.sanghatierra.com/

    Rock Bassist

    Jul, 2015 - Present

    The Merrymaker's Orchestrina

I am currently the bass player in the genre blurring band "The Merrymaker's Orchestrina. The band is based in Brooklyn but play shows all over the country and hopefully soon, all over the world! The band draws influence from such greats like Hendrix, Zeppelin, James Brown, Soundgarden, plus many more. We normally gig in the city a few times a month details are posted on my website so come and see us sometime!

    Bassist

    Oct, 2014 - Feb, 2015

    Mike Norris Big Band

I was the bass player for Mike Norris's 18 piece big band. We played every Thursday from 7pm till 10pm. We played the music of Count Basie, Sammy Nestico, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich and many more. We were booked to play private functions too. Was great fun.

    Showband Musician (Bass)

    Jan, 2014 - Jun, 2014

    Carnival Cruise Lines

Every night for 6 months I played on a cruise ship, we played shows backing the dancers, played in the main lounge for the guests, played for fly-on entertainers and even played live music while some of the guests sang Karaoke! Had to be able to read music in a very quite amount of time, have a lot of endurance and be alert!
