Singing with Ivy C.

I am a professional soprano who has enjoyed singing opera and concert repertoire across North America and Europe. Even though I make my living as a soloist these days, I grew up singing in the choir at church and at school. In addition, my earliest musical training actually came from singing folk music at home with my family. I earned my Master of Music in Opera from the University of British Columbia in Canada and hold a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Kansas State University. I've been teaching voice lessons for over five years and love getting to know my students and watching them grow! In lessons with me, students can expect to set tangible goals that we work towards with each lesson. I focus on establishing healthy breathing habits and teaching Bel Canto based vocal exercises to improve technique. You can expect to see increased freedom in your voice in just a few lessons! I teach all levels and have experience working with singers of all ages. I have taught privately for a number of years and also in public schools! I have helped beginner students accomplish goals like learning how to read music, sing a song in front of an audience, sing on pitch, and more! With intermediate to advanced students, I've helped them to prepare for college auditions, state and regional choir auditions, recitals, and roles in musicals. As a professional singer, I have worked in a variety of settings like on tour in the Czech Republic and Germany with the JK Tyl Opera Orchestra, soloing with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and in concert at the Wexford Festival Opera in Ireland. I've also performed outreach operas and concerts in public schools and for the military community. In addition, I'm an active recitalist and can be heard with different art song organizations throughout the US. I'm passionate about music and the mysterious power it holds for each of us. Singing is a natural expression but I know from my own journey the difference that lessons can make. I hope that each of my students gains a new understanding of and appreciation for their voice through private lessons.
