The Korean language is one of world's oldest living languages that is reputed to be both the easiest and the hardest to learn. But I believe all language is beatable, especially with the right tools and help. I also believe that Korean is a great alternative to learning Chinese and Japanese, as the Korean language shares similar grammatical structures with the Japanese language, while 70% of its vocabulary is a derivative of the Chinese language.
I have contributed to creating and editing Korean-to-English subtitles for Kmovies on Viki.com and GomTV, and have had 3 years of experience as a Korean-to-English translator for On Story, a Broadcasting Channel in Korea. I've scrutinized the grammatical structures and linguistic conceptualizations of both Korean and English as I did my translation works and learned (what I believe to be) the best intersection between these two languages. My insight has proven to be helpful to both beginner and intermediate speakers who want to break the barrier and leap towards speaking, composing, and understanding Korean more fluently. I want to share what I love and do best with students who are willing to dedicate their time and effort in learning Korean.
My lessons are focused on reading, listening, and composing Korean sentences, and progress will depend on the student's level, ability, and interest. I create my own materials and recommend cultural supplemental materials depending on the student's interests. I am very direct and honest with your progress but I will do everything in my power to make sure you get the attention and help you deserve to improve your skills in Korean.
If you are serious about learning Korean and want help to break that barrier, please message me first to see if we are a match!

Hey! I'm Ivey. I am a freelance translator, chilldren's book writer, and a part-time research assistant. I've recently graduated from Emory University with a degree in Media Studies and am planning to attend law school in the coming fall of 2019 to pursue a career in Entertainment Law.
As a Korean-American, I am particularly fascinated by how the Kpop industry and the "Korean Wave" has managed to bridge cultural gaps and garnered global attention. I want to participate in such global conversations, share with students the various aspects of our culture, and help them learn Korean in a fun way. If you are interested, please reach out to me!
Great start! Looking forward to more lessons!
It has been 5 months since I've started working with Ivey and I started from simply reading Hangul to writing a short essay in Korean. She is incredibly patient, encouraging, and funny and she structured the lessons in a way that allowed me to start composing sentences after learning the basic structures. I love how she makes her own worksheets and materials and how clearly she can explain the different language concepts between Enligh and Korean. I am planning to go to Korea this summer and I feel really prepared and ready thanks to Ivey.+ Read More
Lively lesson. Wonderful teacher. My son really enjoy it.
My first lesson was a great learning experience and I look forward to many more lessons with my instructor, Ivey E.
I would highly recommend her for any students looking to learn Korean.
She made me feel comfortable speaking korean, very patient & I overall just had a great experience!
Ivey was my ESL tutor in college and later my Korean tutor. I needed to travel to Korea for an internship and she recommended the best books for conversational Korean, helped me with basic Korean skills and she even hooked me up with her friends in Korea for some cultural experience. She is a great tutor and a great person.+ Read More
Ivey has a great sense of humor and is absolutely a delight to work with. I needed Korean lessons to prepare myself for TeachforAmerica in Korea and she made it super enjoyable with her lessons. She utilizes KDrama and Korean songs to supplement listening and conversational Korean. She even took into account some of my favorite Korean bands for supplements in the lessons. She likes to challenge you but makes it fun so it works out at the end. I would definitely recommend her. If you are a KPOP fan, she is your choice.+ Read More
