I feel very fortunate to have found Ivan, and have benefitted from his instruction in many ways. I began taking lessons with him at the age of 60, as an intermediate piano student. Ivan has a way of understanding your skill level and goals, and teaching you how best to practice on your own. His encyclopedic knowledge of classical music enriches the experience, but he is easily versatile enough to teach jazz theory as well. Ivan encourages performance at recital, and his students are always well prepared. He is an outstanding musician who frequently performs in public. Give yourself over to Ivan’s instruction and improve your technique, understanding of theory, sight reading, and knowledge of classical music. You will enjoy playing the piano more than ever.

If that’s the case, let me tell you that you should stop reading this review and contact Mr. Shapovalov without wasting any more time. He just left our house, like any other Saturday afternoon for three years now, and every time he leaves, I have the same feeling of putting my son’s musical knowledge in the best hands (ever). Our son passed this year the Certificate of Merit in Piano with a perfect score, and we thank 100% Mr. Shapovalov for such success. Mr. Shapovalov is a great pianist, educated, polite, and kind. Our son loves him like he was family, and his performance just gets better and better. It is unbelievable how much he improved working with Mr. Shapovalov. Mr. Shapovalov organizes recitals, workshops, and pre-tests in order to prepare his students for the Certificate of Merit test. He takes proud in his students’ success and works with our son using multiple approaches, all of them orientated to make the lesson fun and useful, totally aligned with the Certificate of Merit test expectations. I feel bad it took so long to write a review about this fabulous teacher. I guess I didn’t want to share our “treasure” with anybody else! But seriously: if you are looking for a committed, professional musician, and stellar teacher, all in one person… contact Mr. Shapovalov. Enjoy.

I am DJ and sound producer. And i used to study Harmony and chord progressions with Ivan. He helped me to improve my theoretical and practical knowledge and teached me how to use classical musical theory in modern dance music. I really can recommned this teacher not only for beginners but also for advanced students who have lack of theory base.
