I am a violinist from Rogers Park, Chicago's North Side. I started violin when I was 3, and have been playing ever since! I studied with Stacia Spencer at Northwestern University's String Academy, then went on to study violin performance at Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. I started teaching violin 8 years ago and have greatly enjoyed working with my students! Since then I have completed many Suzuki method teacher trainings and taken a string pedagogy course at Oberlin. I also have studied and play baroque violin in various groups in Chicago including Baroque Band and the Bach and Beethoven Ensemble. I also sing and play viola da gamba. *** Lesson Details *** I teach private lessons to students of all ages and levels. Music and learning should be fun! I help students express themselves and reach their goals. For beginning and intermediate violinists I usually teach the Suzuki violin method literature with a mix of traditional materials, but I am happy to teach whatever music the student wants to play! Students may also like to explore fiddle music, jazz, rock, modern, folk, romantic, or renaissance music! Depending on the student, in lessons I tend to have my students warm up with some scales and technique work, and then focus on a piece for the later part of the lesson. In my teaching I prioritize playing in a healthy and relaxed manner. My studies of body awareness have included Alexander technique, yoga, Feldenkrais, meditation, and T'ai chi. A happy and healthy body makes for a happy violinist! *** Studio Equipment *** I teach out of my home studio, I have a room with my teaching supplies, instrument, stands, piano, and seating for parents and siblings. *** Specialties *** I play traditional violin, and I also specialize in baroque violin. I play viola da gamba as well. I'm trained to teach the O'Connor American Fiddle method for violin playing.

Isabelle is an excellent teacher. She makes you comfortable going from one piece to new piece, from one skill to another. In each session she applies hollistic approach consisting of focusing on technique, playing instrument and learning theory, which render learner to grow in every aspect at the same time.

I am a violin teacher who has worked with Isabelle. My students love working with her as a sub. She has a keen sense for discovering what would benefit a student most, and is resourceful in finding ways to address problem areas. I recommend her most highly!
