About Isabel K.

Over the last nine years, it has brought me a special joy to teach music to my students. I mentor students of all levels and ages with patience, kindness and passion, so they can enjoy the process of learning music and take their skills with them for the rest of their lives.

Music training is incomplete without a mastery of fundamental skills and concepts, such as sight-reading, rhythm, healthy technique, music theory and history, and performance etiquette. Not only are these skills transferable to other disciplines, they are also useful for a lifetime of learning and music-making. To hone these skills, it is imperative for students to practice daily, be prepared for lessons and most importantly, have a positive attitude and be excited to learn. Students are most empowered by developing problem solving skills, which is why I aspire to understand each student’s unique needs and encourage them to develop their own initiative and ideas. I teach using a wide array of teaching methods and classical repertoire to creatively address each individual's goals to inspire them to be dedicated and sincerely enthusiastic about their studies. Students are encouraged to perform in bi-annual recitals held at the Greenwich House Music School to polish their pieces, develop confidence in performance, and celebrate their hard work. Studying piano has enriched my life in ways I would have never imagined, and I hope to pass along a life-long love of learning onto each of my students.

Isabel has been teaching my 5 year-old daughter piano since she was 3 years-old, and began formally teaching my 3 year-old daughter this past summer. She is remarkably good with small children, and working with them she has already taught both of them not only how to play piano, but solid music theory (notation pitch and duration, dynamics, etc.) such that my older daughter now composes simple pieces (with help to write things out) that she can then play back from the sheet music. Isabel comes to our home consistently and reliably, and has the connections and knowledge to help arrange more formal group recitals (our older daughter has played a handful at several locations in Manhattan and our younger daughter is excitedly preparing her first performance piece). I cannot recommend her highly enough.
