ABOUT I am a teacher, musician and songwriter born and raised in Brooklyn. I began taking piano lessons as a child, got my first harmonica at thirteen years old, and my first guitar the year after that. At sixteen I started teaching music lessons and learning advanced theory on the side. Later, I studied theory more formally in San Diego, learning classical guitar, composition, ear training, and piano. In the summers I teach woodworking to 800 children in a day camp and coordinate a weekend series of free concerts in my local community garden. The rest of the year, when not performing and recording my own material, I teach music to adults and children of all ages. My love of music is combined with genuine enjoyment of teaching. I would describe myself as a confident, relaxed, and patient instructor. LESSON DETAILS At our first lesson, we'll start by getting to know your musical tastes and aspirations. We'll talk about your goals and what you want to achieve. Then, we'll create a custom lesson plan to fit your unique needs and desires.  Everybody follows a different path, but no matter which path you choose you must start with a strong foundation in fundamentals. And I always sprinkle my lessons with easy-to-understand basic music theory. I teach my students mostly songs they know in order to keep them excited and motivated, as well as some new songs to open them up to new styles. Each lesson, we will record your progress to ensure that you are getting most out of each meeting and that you are learning at your desired pace.  As we progress, you will gain the tools and knowledge not only to learn songs but to write songs on your own.  STUDIO DETAILS & EQUIPMENT Large front room with high ceilings and lots of sunlight coming in through the bay windows overlooking the street. Bookshelves and chairs for parents to sit and read. Classical, parlor and acoustic guitars are always always on hand, as well as a keyboard, mandolin, ukulele, and 20 harmonicas (though harmonica students should always have their own instrument). TRAVEL EQUIPMENT I provide my instrument, my book(s), and home-made worksheets (chord sheets, scale sheets, etc.). Student provides their instrument and book (if preferred, not mandatory). SPECIALTIES Harmonica, Acoustic, Blues, Folk, Indie, Rock, Harmonica-guitar/piano combo, music theory for guitar.
