Teaching since:
2004

TEACHING STYLE: I provide positive, patient, professional instruction, customized to each individual student's levels and goals.

LEVELS: I teach all levels of students; beginner through advanced are all welcome. I teach all ages-- children (age 5+), teens and adults.

LOCATIONS: I teach in 3 locations: (1) my home in San Diego (92129), (2) in your home if you prefer (if your home is located within my travel radius), or (3) anywhere in the world via online saxophone lessons!

FOCUS: Lessons are customized based on the student's levels, musical preferences and goals. Beginning students will learn basic saxophone technique and fundamentals, sight reading (learning to read music), ear training and theory.

For students who have mastered the basics and are more advanced, lessons are focused on three main areas:

(1) Tone development: A beautiful sound will set you apart.
(2) Technical facility: in order to be a great improviser, you need the technical facility to play what you hear in your head and I can help you get there.
(3) The jazz language, through rigorous transcription and a practical application of those concepts by soloing over chord progressions (blues, rhythm changes, etc.). Students will be able to immediately apply the concepts learned through transcription to real live performances and other contexts.

I also coach students as they prepare for auditions, such as high school or college bands, or for work as a professional musician.

MUSICAL STYLE: I am fluent in a variety of musical styles and customize musical repertoire based on my students' tastes and goals. Genres I specialize in include: straight ahead/traditional jazz, smooth jazz, classical, pop, funk, hip-hop, R & B, Gospel, contemporary Christian music, soul and much more.

Lessons are generally once per week and scheduled at a regular time. If you have different scheduling needs, please let me know and I will do my best to work with your schedule.

LESSON LENGTH: Beginning students typically start with 30 minute lessons; intermediate and advanced students usually opt for 60 minute lessons.

RESCHEDULING/CANCELLATIONS POLICY: please give me at least 24 hours notice if you would like to reschedule a lesson. Missed lessons with less than 24 hours notice will not be rescheduled. Exceptions: sudden illness (e.g., waking up that same morning with a fever) or sudden true emergency (e.g., severe accident or injury, etc.).

I have seen Isaac teach kids, adults and professionals. I have also seen Isaac play at weddings, churches and professional concerts. I even saw him play at his own wedding! He is by far the best saxophone player I have ever met. I highly recommend Isaac.

When you work with Isaac, you are working with a professional musician. As a professional, Isaac shows up on time, follows through on his promises and delivers a high quality service.

On top of that, Isaac can put on one heck of a show!

Isaac's passion for music comes through.

The crowning moment when he played at the Chateau Marmont Hotel during the middle of a birthday dinner and all the celebrities seated at other tables shut up and listened and then applauded. They had no idea who he was but we all felt his gift. That was a divine experience from a fearless master of his craft that will remain forever etched in my soul.

I am a fellow musician and colleague and have had the privilege of knowing Isaac for years, as well as seeing him play saxophone at numerous live events. I don't have kids yet, so I can't yet speak as a parent of Isaac's students, but when I do have kids in the future, I truly hope they will take lessons with Isaac and I would entrust them with him in a heartbeat.

The first thing people notice when they meet Isaac is that he is an all-around great, kind, easy-going, brilliant guy with a ready smile, and students of any age would thoroughly enjoy having him as a teacher.

The second thing people notice is that Isaac is an absolutely AMAZING musician and saxophonist!! His talent and experience are off the charts. Everywhere he performs, he gets huge amounts of admiration, applause, attention, accolades and compliments. On numerous occasions, I've heard audience members around me comment to each other about his amazing performance skills on sax (and keyboard). He is incredibly versatile and knowledgeable in musical styles, theory and musical languages-- I've heard him play traditional jazz, smooth jazz, funk, pop, Gospel, contemporary Christian, EDM and more, and he plays them all with ease and expertise. Not only is he amazing on sax, but you may not know he's also an incredibly gifted producer, keyboardist and songwriter as well.

This guy is a professional through and through, and his students are inspired by him and know they are SO lucky to have him as a teacher!! I hope you take the opportunity to take lessons from this amazing musician while you can!!
