I am a published poet with a love of writing. I love that feeling when the words line up on the page in just the right way. When the ideas you wished to impart are communicated in exactly the way you intended, and you have no qualms about sharing this creation with others. I have taught writing for the past seven years. Early on, I began to develop an understanding that students today do not learn to write in the traditional sense. Most writing: Format, style, tone, etc., is internalized via reading. Modern students, for the most part, are not avid readers. So, it falls to the writing instructor to break the essay into component parts and teach each explicitly. I have developed a simple solution that provides students with the scaffolding to build a strong essay. This system focuses on overall organization, sentence requirements for each paragraph, and effective introductions and conclusions. In short, we will break down essay requirements to the most basic format, sentence by sentence. Further, I believe in the importance of feedback. In fact, it is the most important aspect of the writing process. As we work through the edit of each section of the essay, I will provide thorough, constructive, personalized feedback to ensure growth in writing ability. In short, I believe everyone has an innate ability to write well. If you can have a conversation, you can write. I can help you structure that communication and enjoy the entire process. You may never love writing as I do, but you will no longer be intimidated by the process.
