Hi! I am excited to work with students of all ages and levels, and I am here to help you unlock the treasury of our music together. I'm devoted to passing on the joy of music-making to performers of any age, whether you are passionate about musical theater, classical music, or just for the fun of making music. As a soloist, I maintain an active career throughout the United States and Europe. I am the artistic director of Les Enfants d'Orphée, an international ensemble dedicated to the performance of French Baroque music. I am on the roster of Boston Lyric Opera, The National Cathedral, and the Boston Early Music Festival, and have had engagements with Lowell House Opera, Opera Brittenica, Cantata Singers, Opera Providence, concerts in Portland, New York, Boston, Washington, DC, Paris, and many others. I have had numerous radio and TV appearances. I have over a decade and a half of successful studio teaching experience with students of all ages. I hold a Bachelors of Music in Voice Performance from Westminster Choir College and a Masters of Music in Voice and Vocal Pedagogy from Longy School of Music of Bard College and am completing my Doctorate of Musical Arts at the Hartt School, and am on the faculty of the Aquilon Music Festival. Whether you are just starting to sing or are an artist looking to solidify your technique and style, I have the latest techniques to make learning to sing fun and effective for you. *** Lesson Details *** The atmosphere in my studio is student-centered and informal, and is built around the student's goals and stylistic tastes and abilities. Whether it is your first voice lesson or you are a working professional, the curriculum will be formed completely around you as an individual artist want to achieve. Within 6 months of study, you will have a firm basis in vocal technique in your chosen style, and a firm grasp of the repertoire that you love to sing. Most importantly, however, you will develop a love of music and singing that you will keep throughout your life. If you are a parent, I encourage your involvement, and you are most welcome to sit in on your child's lessons and share in the music-making experience. *** Studio Equipment *** Full piano, music stand, private room, seating for parents. *** Specialties *** I have experience in performing and teaching musical theater, early music, opera, Mediterranean folk music, diction, music theory, and Shakespearean acting technique. I live on-and-off in Paris, and speak fluent French. I have two anticipated albums being released in 2020, I direct the acclaimed ensemble Les Enfant's d'Orphée dedicated to the French baroque.

Fantastic teacher. He has helped my daughter (high-schooler) immensely after only a few lessons. She has gained so much confidence, and thanks to Ian's tutelage, she succeeded in her audition for the school musical. Ian has a broad repertoire of music knowledge and experience, and even though we only have tapped him for broadway-style singing, it's clear he could help with so much more. He also has a laid-back yet professional personality and is very flexible with scheduling. If you are looking for a voice teacher, you should not pass up the opportunity to work with Ian.

Ian is by far the best voice teacher whom I have ever had. He really listens to his student, which is the first and best pedagogical technique. With him, I have learned to sing repertoire ranging from musical theater to opera, and I know that every skill I learn from him is transferable to whatever I want to sing. By studying with Ian, I have made more progress in my technique and my artistry within a shorter amount of time than I ever have before. Moreover, I have enjoyed music more and more with every lesson. I highly recommend this teacher!
