My music life began in middle school, where I was introduced to music theory, and learned to play the violin and double bass. After a few years of orchestra, I had an overwhelming urge to "rock out" and play loudly, so I switched over to the guitar. I basically taught myself everything I wanted to know about it. It wasn't until about 6 years ago that I realized my love for the classical guitar. Playing three parts at one time (bass, harmony, and melody) is so much fun to me. In the past few years, I've attended several music classes and private lessons, as well as performances with the Tarrant County College Guitar Ensemble and Tarrant County College String Ensemble.
*** Lesson Details ***
I'm very laid back, and try to keep stress out of the lesson. I keep it fun and light hearted, all the while learning useful components. My curriculum is based on each individual student and what their personal goals are. After 3 months, you can expect to be able to read standard notation and tablature, understand basic concepts of the guitar to shape into any style you want, and know enough chords to write your own songs.
*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar (classical or electric), music stand, and foot stool.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in the classical guitar method, although I can also teach the basics of guitar which make up the foundation of any style.
We have been very happy with Ian as a guitar teacher. He has been teaching my son for about 6 months. Since then my son has learned a lot and looks forward to his lesson. Ian is patient and makes guitar easy to understand.
