    About Ian G.

I am a professional actor who's made a successful career onstage both off-Broadway and in regional theater. I received my BFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and my MFA from The Shakespeare Theatre Company Academy for Classical Acting, currently among the top programs in the world dedicated to Shakespeare performance. I'm particularly devoted to Shakespeare, but I take a classically-based approach to performing more contemporary work as well. I work with students to examine the text very thoroughly, to understand its structure and rhetoric, and to use it to discover acting choices that are engaging and uniquely your own. Humor is a terrific tool, even in dramatic pieces. We'll look at the text and figure out where the funny is, then bring it out. Quirky, unusual laughs a specialty. I've worked all over the country, including two seasons on tour with The Acting Company, the Guthrie Theater, New York Classical Theater (where I'm an Associate Artist), Baltimore Center Stage, The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, and many seasons at Great Lakes Theater and Idaho Shakespeare Festival.
