Alexander Technique

Alexander Technique and Vedic Meditation in NYC

Students can expect openness--the space to be themselves, to question and to laugh. In Alexander, we strive to "dare to be wrong" & that can only happen when empathy exists between student and teacher. Lessons are a partnership: a game of discovering one's 'self' and the myriad habits that inhibit her best from shining forth. Someone who sees the profundity of this work in its simplicity, I strive to be clear so to, through a generosity of spirit, invite the student into his/her self-discovery. I also have deep experience and knowledge as a professional musician, a meditation teacher, a longtime yogini and longtime student of eastern arts. An inherent storyteller and sometimes professional writer, I am specific and precise (as can be!) with my language when describing these often ineffable and subjective concepts and experiences. Above all else, I believe how we do anything is how we do everything; so I'm passionate about connecting the dots between the mundane and quotidian and the sublime and specific. Alexander Technique has saved many lives--including my own--and that can take the form of removing chronic pain, releasing creative potential, revealing presence in the present as well as serving as a form of Western Zen for busy, habituated westerners.

    Experience

    Alexander Technique Teacher

    Jan, 2015 - Present

    American Center for Alexander Technique

After completing both my supervisory private teaching and my training at ACAT, I have made time to volunteer weekly to help further teach and train the current trainees alongside one of my own senior trainers as a means of continuing learning from him as well as learning through doing (as in teaching!). Working with more advanced students of the technique that are enrolled in teacher training helps me refine my own understanding of the philosophy as well as physical hands-own aspects of working with students as I can try new assists and ideas and get safe, helpful feedback.
