I am a National Champion buckdancer, Kentucky State Champion jig dancer, and Rocky Mountain Champion clogger.  I have a student whose won the Tennessee state championship.  I've been teaching for 6 years.  I design a curriculum to suit the individual needs and desires of each student.  The best way to learn is to get out and experience music with other dancers.  Join a dance team.  Go to festivals.  I highly recommend supplementing your lessons with real-life dancing experiences.  My most successful students get involved in the local dance scene.

I teach by ear and by sheet music. I am a freelance musician, and I earn a living by playing, teaching, and recording music.  I am the National buckdancing champion, and I teach both buckdancing and clogging.  Fiddle is my main instrument.  I specialize in Old-Time music, but I also play bluegrass, classical, Irish, Scottish, and Canadian.  I also play and teach the viola, mandolin, guitar, tenor guitar, djembe, cajon, and bodhran.

I am an older student. Plus was a  little nervous about taking lessons on-line.  Hillary is an amazing teacher. I am extremely happy with her and look forward to my lesson each week.  She has so much knowledge to share with me and teaches at my pace. Thank you Hillary for sharing your love of the violin with me.

My daughter May had her first lesson yesterday with Hillary.  She walked out of there excited to return next week.  Hillary gave her several things to work on for the week.  May couldn't wait to get home and practice. I think Hillary will be a great teacher for May.

Can't believe she taught me to play a scale in one lesson when I had never touched a string instrument....and did it over FaceTime!

I don't want to just play the mandolin, I want to play the mandolin well. I truly believe Hillary K. will help me get there. She is adamant about building good technique. She's friendly, knowledgeable, and stays on task during the lesson so I got a lot out of our first lesson together. I'm really looking forward to many more! 

My background: I know music theory, read music and played clarinet all through high school and did musical theater for many years, however I have never played a stringed instrument before.

Hillary has been an awesome teacher. I was a little nervous about taking online classes because I wasn't sure how it was going to work. Hillary is able to send me sheet music and also recordings of what we do so I can practice durning the week. I have taken my first 'bundle' of classes and cannot wait to keep going. I just purchased another 4 pack of classes and can honestly say that it is worth the money. Hillary is an awesome teacher and I wouldn't go elsewhere!! :)

First lesson went great! Hillary gave me lots to practice on for our next session! Yay :)   I'm excited to learn more.

I've been playing off and on for 20+ years and Hillary is a great fiddle teacher! I've been 'seeing' her on Skype for a few months now and feel I've learned a lot in a short amount of time. She goes over music theory while at the same time challenges you with different pieces of music Io your liking. She is very posiive, encouraging and is patient. She has been trained classically as well as in bluegrass and celtic. I would definitely recommend her to students new to the violin or for ones that want to brush up and move from intermediate to advanced filddle playing ! I can't wait to start our 'in person' lessons.

My wife and I both take lessons from Hillary.  I am learning to play the fiddle while my wife is learning to play the mandolin.  We are both beginners and have never played any instrument.  You might say we are seasoned adults, yes we are a little older than most who take up music for the first time.  Hillary is very knowledgeable about both instruments and plays both of them very well.  She is patient but firm in technique.  She will press you to learn and correct you when you need it. She knows how to encourage us to keep playing and get us involved with other musicians.

I had the pleasure of having Hillary as my fiddle teacher for a semester.  She helped me with good playing habits and got me to memorize tunes and learn them by ear.  She was very adept at providing tunes that I was interested in learning.  I thoroughly enjoyed my lessons and look forward to another semester in the near future!

Great person and personality. Teaches from your level and will challenge you to learn. Always wants you to get better and understanding with questions!

Hillary is very talented, dedicated and willing to do what it takes to help you understand all aspects of learning the fiddle. I am very satisfied with her patience and tolerance of teaching an old dog new tricks!!

Hillary is an excellent teacher, zeroing in on that which needs work and encouragement. She is quick to move a student on to more challenging work rather than following a set curriculum. Hillary goes out of her way to encourage group jams, and sponsors her own bi-weekly jams for her students and others. I find her a real pleasure to work with. And, she apparently takes all ages, as I'm 68.
