Hi there! I would love to get you rolling and strumming along. I can help you with whatever your goals are, whether you are a beginner, intermediate, advanced, or learning from scratch. I work with my different kinds of people with many different goals and interests! I also host a slow jam in the Brooklyn area that can get you playing with other banjo players, fiddlers, guitarists, singers, learning repertoire, etc.. I would love to get you started! Although I am new to this website I have been performing in NYC for 12 years and teaching banjo for 10. Please check out my website (www(dot)hilaryhawkemusic.com) for bio and more info if needed since that is where I keep the most updated stuff. I am versatile and knowledgable in many different styles of banjo playing from oldtime clawhammer, scruggs style bluegrass, folk, country swing, to singer songwriter,etc.. Just let me know your thoughts! I have a bachelors and masters degree in music education. I only teach Wed-Saturday and recommend an hour lesson length. That is the standard for adult lessons and I think it will benefit you the most! Thank you for taking a look! Best, Hilary

Hilary is an amazing teacher. Very patient and knowledgeable. She really knows so much about all different styles of old classic American folk music. Hilary is a very inspiring musician and teacher. Most importantly, Her teaching style, allows you to have fun learning the instrument on all different skill levels!

I am a fan of Hilary! She is a great banjo player, and I have seen her play a million times. I just recently started taking scruggs style banjo lessons and she is teaching me some of the most popular banjo songs to help my technique. She also starts each lesson with exercises for my right and left hands before we jump into songs. I really look forward to each lesson!

Hilary is an outstanding teacher! She really is one of the most patient people I've ever met, and seems to really care about what I'm learning. All I can say is I wish I had her as a teacher sooner!
