    I am a native speaker of Portuguese and got my degree in English (ESL) and French Teaching in my home country, Portugal. I have been teaching foreign languages and ESL for more than 20 years and am comfortable working with all age groups. I taught 17 years in Portugal (ESL and French; 6-12 grades and Adult Education Programs) and ever since I moved to the US in 2010 (Portuguese and Spanish in a corporation, and tutoring all four languages at home or online). I am also currently working as a full-time translator of European Portuguese but my real passion is teaching and the interaction with students. I am very patient, motivated, and enthusiastic and I always adjust my teaching methods to the student's age, needs, and purpose. I never give up on a student and I am sure I can help him/her attain his/her full potential. I believe anyone can learn a new language but consistent repetition and refreshing before, during, and after class is needed. I expect the students to be responsible, patient, and persistent in their learning process and I am willing to help them on the way.

    I am an American moving to Portugal and Helena was referred to me by some of her former students. I didn’t have many lessons with her, but she got me off on a great start and we covered a lot of ground. Helena was always charming and pleasant, focused and persistent, patient and challenging. I am truly grateful to Helena for this start, and I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone wanting some tutoring in the Portuguese language.
