I assisted in a month long summer art camp, helping teach groups of 8-10 children ages 5-9.

This was a 5 week summer intensive program working with high school students on portfolio preparation for college admissions. We covered 5 subjects: painting, drawing, sculpture, illustration, and printmaking. I assisted in teaching students, working with them one on one, and managing the supply room and studio setup.

Drawing confidently is an essential skill that every artist should have in their tool belt. It is the foundation for every form of art from painting to sculpture, performance, and installation. I love teaching beginning foundations in graphite and charcoal all the way through more advanced techniques in color and liquid media. Drawing should be fun and I strive to make drawing concepts and techniques as accessible as possible!

Hi my name is Hattie and I am an artist with a wide range of interests! I majored in painting and drawing in college and I have a masters degree in Fine Arts. I lam experienced in painting, drawing (technical and conceptual), bookmaking, fibers, natural dyeing, printmaking, sewing, and upholstery. With my background in art college admissions I am also very experienced in portfolio preparation for college admission. I am goofy but structured, patient and adaptable to different learning styles.

Hattie is knowledgeable and patient. My biggest challenge was using the newer model sewing machine as I had not sewed for a long time. She was a great problem solver about issues that arose for me and had spent time in advance to understand my particular sewing machine. Overall, she is a superb teacher. We became more cordial and positive than I would ever have expected in a short teaching stint. She was just grand as a mentor for my re-entry into sewing!

Hattie is a wonderful instructor!  She is very communicative and arrived prepared.  She is knowledgeable, energetic and personable. We look forward to more lessons with her!
