Experience
Rights Manager
Jul, 2019 - PresentScholastic
I have the pleasure of selling the translation and audio rights for children's books ranging from board books to young adult novels. I am responsible for selling beloved books like DOG MAN, SMILE, and THE INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET into markets across the globe so that children can read them in their local languages.
Assistant Manager, Subrights
Aug, 2017 - Jun, 2019Abrams
I worked selling the rights for Abrams's books to foreign publishing houses throughout the world so that content could be translated into different languages. I also worked on selling the audio rights to Abrams's books. In doing so, I was tasked with attending book fairs internationally and working with foreign publishers on a daily basis. I helped in getting DIARY OF A WIMPY KID and various other children's series published in other countries.
Literary Scout's Assistant
Dec, 2014 - Jun, 2017Baker Literary Scouting Inc.
Baker Literary Scouting is a full-service literary consulting company which helps contracted foreign publishing houses to see what's on the US book market first so they have a chance to acquire translation rights. In order to fully serve their clients, I liaised with US publishing house and agencies in order to keep on top of the latest works in both fiction and nonfiction. I also scheduled clients for/attended book fairs and conferences. My work required a keen eye for detail and talent and as such I am able to "diagnose" works for their merit, strengths, and possible improvements. With my help, some of our clients have won prestigious awards over the course of the past 2 years and have successfully grown their lists to include a wide array of American projects.
Intern
Jan, 2014 - Jan, 2015Foundry Literary and Media
I worked under a literary agent reading manuscript submissions and providing a second pair of eyes on important existing clients' works. I discussed projects closely with my agent and helped her to decide who she should represent.
Senior Peer Mentor
Sep, 2013 - Dec, 2013SUNY Purchase Literature Department
I advised and ran workshops with students under the head professor of pedagogy at Purchase college. In addition to my previous duties as a peer mentor, I also worked closely with new peer mentors to help them facilitate discussions in small groups. I acted as a senior advisor for new peer mentors and helped to cultivate their individual relationships with one another and their students. This involved helping them to pair with students one-on-one to ensure a fully-assisted learning community.
Peer Mentor
Sep, 2011 - Dec, 2012SUNY Purchase Literature Department
I advised students under the head professor of pedagogy at Purchase college. I worked with students to form and articulate convincing arguments. In addition, I ran workshops with students to facilitate an environment where people could get constructive criticism from their peers. I held meetings and worked on aspects of writing on a case-by-case basis. Many of my students went on to be peer mentors themselves, and we are still very much in contact years after teaching them. My students have gone on to work at literary agencies, Teach for America, and graduate programs for the arts. Many of my peer mentor colleagues continue to be in close contact with me as we've wound up working together in the publishing world.
Tutor
Jan, 2011 - Dec, 2012Learning Center, SUNY Purchase
I worked with students in all stages of writing. At the learning center, I helped people to organize their writing materials and research, write senior projects and capstones, and I worked with them on edits made by their professors. My tutoring differentiated based on the specific challenges that presented themselves in each project. I often helped students from start to finish with works that they felt passionately about. It is here that I found my passion for editing and my keen eye for detail while still keeping the integrity of each writers' work. I also helped students who sent their work via the student portal - I diagnosed their specific strengths and weaknesses in order to solidify theses, improve grammar, and overall "tone" their writing for professorial review. I was featured in the Purchase College 2014 Learning Center brochure as a prominent tutor.
