    About Hallie T.

    5.0

Hallie, an actress for over 40 years, is especially well known to audiences for her role as Jo McGuire, Lizzie's mom on the hit series Lizzie McGuire, and in The Lizzie McGuire Movie. ("Top Ten TV Moms" - CNN Entertainment) Star Trek fans may also know her as Data’s daughter, “Lal”. In addition to her long career as a professional actress in movies and television, Hallie also writes and produces films. She most recently co-wrote, co-produced and starred in The Last Champion, an inspirational sports drama, starring Cole Hauser ("Rip Wheeler" from Yellowstone.) The film has received 4.5 stars across all platforms and has been awarded the highest honors at every festival it’s entered. From beginning to professional actors, Hallie has taught and coached for over seventeen years. Many of Hallie’s students have become successful working actors on stage and in film and television and she is especially proud of helping several students gain acceptances to prestigious (and highly competitive) college and university theatre programs. Her acting classes and private coaching have gained national recognition and have been featured on ABC Primetime, in the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times Sunday Magazine. For some, a career in professional show business isn’t the ultimate goal but there are so many other worthwhile reasons to explore acting: Besides also being incredibly fun, acting is the only performing art that has the unique power to help and improve multiple areas of an individual’s life: Confidence, Imagination, Humor, Trust, Courage, Generosity, Physical Coordination, Public Speaking, Intelligence, Reading, Research Skills, Active Listening, Emotional Accessibility and Risk-taking, Problem Solving, Empathy and a deeper understanding of the human condition. In short, studying acting builds character!

Hallie has been my acting instructor for nearly two decades. From scene work, to monologue work, to audition prep, to on-set coaching, Hallie has coached me into my most powerful performances. She has a way of seeing and understanding human nature. As a coach, that understanding coaxes out nuanced performances that feel like a weaving together of what is natural to the actor with lively, specific, and memorable takes on characters. Hallie is so easy to work with—she is real, honest, supportive, warm, and funny to boot! I feel honored to have worked with Hallie for so many years. I have worked with many other acting coaches, but I always come back to Hallie because she is an expert, an artist, and the best of the best.

Hallie Todd is amazing. Hallie first worked with my daughter Lizzy Kay when we lived in Perth in 2013 and she would skype with Lizzy every saturday morning for over a year. We worked that way for well over a year before moving to the US. Hallie helped Lizzy with Film and Television audition prep as well as scene study. Most of Lizzy's auditions were taped so it was critical that Hallie help Lizzy prepare for her performance on camera. Hallie would assess the sides with Lizzy and break down the scenes, the relationships and the central dramatic conflict that needed to be demonstated. In particular Hallie understands that the taped session is the best opportunity to help get callbacks. Hallie in particular assisted Lizzy with her audition prep for management representation. Lizzy was signed up by Luber Roklin Entertainment as a result of her work with Hallie. Now in LA Lizzy is auditioning in the room with Casting Directors and all the hard work that Hallie put in has paid off. To-date Lizzy has had several call backs including Director Sessions. Lizzy also recently won an Award of Excellence for her lead role in a Short Film which recently screened in St Tropez and Cannes Film Festivals.

Hallie has been my teacher and coach for six years now, and there is no one I would rather learn from. She has an incredible gift for working with actors: finding the most interesting take on a scene, teaching and utilizing various techniques to strengthen and widen an actor's toolbox. After all my time studying with Hallie I never feel at a loss when I'm handed a scene, no matter what that may be - comedic, dramatic, action-filled or technical. Her teaching is precise and astute, and I honestly cannot recommend her highly enough. As a student in her class, I was lucky enough to be cast in "The Mooring", a film Hallie produced, starred in and co-wrote which was picked up by Lionsgate - my first professional film job and one of the most remarkable experiences of my career. As a teacher, collaborator, and mentor, Hallie is amazing and inspiring and has made an enormous impact on both my career and my life.
