I am certified to teach in both China and the United States. I started teaching American students Mandarin Chinese online since 2017. Before I became a full time Mandarin teacher (K-8) at a school in Arizona in 2019, I taught special forces Chinese part time. I have been teaching ESL students (mostly middle school and high school students) Reading and Writing (includes rhetorical devices) since 2009. For Mandarin Chinese class, I can help you with HSK, AAPPL and ACTFL tests. HSK is required if you are interested studying in China one day. AAPPL is a test for K-12 students, while ACTFL is a test that's required for any person who's interested working for military or national departments in the United States. For example, I took OPI Mandarin and I acquired Superior level before I could teach special forces Mandarin. For English related subjects (ESL, Reading, Writing), I can help you with academic school work and TOEFL test. From my education background, you will see I have met with the qualifications of being an English teacher! I got my B.A. in English Literature from a prestigious university in China (Henan University ranked TOP 5 in English subject the year before I attended). I acquired my teaching license in English subject after I graduated from college. In 2016, with multiple scholarships, I came to U.S.A. to pursue my further study in English. As the only nonnative English speaker, I got my M.F.A. in Creative Writing from University of New Hampshire. I got a full time teaching job in the states after I graduated. I have 12 years of language teaching experience. I have learned eight languages and dialects over the years in China and overseas. I started tutoring Chinese students (age 8-16) English and Chinese in 2009 and I founded my first summer camp in China in 2010. Students who had registered for my summer camp increased from 25 in 2010 to 86 in 2016. I've gained very valuable skills and perspectives in teaching, not just as a teacher, but also as a student--students are my teachers too--I've learned there are always places that I can improve and better help them learn languages. Students' "needs" and "wants" are prioritized. It helps students achieve their goals while combined with students' "lacks" in lesson planning. Students should get involved in the lesson planning process. Interest is the best teacher. When I taught non-native Chinese speakers (in China, South Korea and the U.S) Chinese, it seemed it stimulated their curiosity and interest to learn Chinese when cultural elements were introduced--such as characters' origin and visualization, historical contexts and cultural traditions. I hope that approach can also bring you an enjoyable experience learning a new language! To help you be able to use Chinese, our language learning is mainly through interactive and communicative approaches. Talk! Talk! Talk! Please don't be shy. It's okay to make mistakes. Learning from mistakes is also a very effective way to learn a new language. We can make more contextualized dialogues based on whatever textbook you are using now. Or we can produce functional conversation based on everyday topics that you are interested. Lesson plans are customized and they can be flexible. Ready to get on the boat and sail on the sea of Chinese? :)

Yes, That's true. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ She's the best instructor ever that's what five starts meaning shows. I mean if it's possible I would like to dedicate all positive adjectives to her because she deserves all of that. Thank you teacher!!
My eight-year-old son and I are so happy to work with Guifang. He has no background in the language and expressed a desire to learn it. She has made learning Mandarin approachable and fun. I appreciate her flexibility as well. For example, rescheduling or sharing video links when we were traveling, and Jack forgot his Chinese workbooks at home. The videos she creates as a teaching tool are great and keep his interest. Jack enjoys his lessons and has made remarkable progress in the two months he has worked with her. I highly recommend her.
Guifang has been helping us with Mandarin for about 5 months now. She's absolutely fantastic and I can't say enough good things about her. She takes her time explaining concepts, vocabulary, grammar and gives plenty of examples to make sure the concept is well understood. Even then when one makes mistakes, she's very patient correcting the mistake and going over previously reviewed concept or grammar. Guifang and student both take enough notes in a shared document so that student can review later. We use Guifang for two things 1) help with current school work and homework. Help prepare for quizzes and unit tests. Go over and explain any mistakes in school quizzes/tests. Explain difficult lessons from school textbooks and 2) expand student's vocabulary outside of school. Guifang uses multiple materials (e.g., other textbook, movies, etc.) for this part . She gives homework to make sure that student gets enough practice and to make sure any new concepts/vocabulary etc. are covered in the homework. We made tremendous progress with Guifang's help and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a Mandarin tutor. Also Guifang is very responsive, communicative and flexible when we had to reschedule lessons because of a conflict either from her end or ours. All on all a great tutoring experience with Guifang who is a very highly enthusiastic, patient and knowledgeable person :).
