Music Theory with Grzegorz W.

I am a professional double bass player, band leader and composer. I graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria and the Conservatoire de Paris. I earned my Master’s degree at the Jazz Campus Basel and Berklee Global Jazz Institute. During my studies I had a privilege to be mentored by world-class artists such as Larry Grenadier, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, Mark Turner, Jeff Ballard and Ben Street among others. As a musician I have a passion for a wide range of both notated and improvised music. I create my own musical utterances by exploring the possibilities of acoustic bass and by developing an intimate, ear-absorbing quality of sound. In 2015 my debut album Confessions was released to critical acclaim. May 2017 saw the premier performance of my newest trio project featuring Jeff Ballard at Bird’s Eye Jazz Club Basel. My master thesis titled "Understanding Uncertainty”, presenting an experimental rendition of Polish traditional church tunes, was enthusiastically received and is awaiting further development. As a member of various bands I worked with such artists as Joachim Kuhn, Don Friedman, Lewis Nash, Jorge Rossy, Seamus Blake, Curtis Fuller.
