Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance
About Gregory R.
I'm the trumpet player, songwriter, and backup singer for Philadelphia based funk band, Swift Technique. The band has been my pride and passion for the last 11 years. I recently moved to Washington DC from Philly, but am still active with the band. I'm hoping to impact the local music scene here and learn new things from new musicians and students.
I graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance, with a minor in education. I've been teaching privately since 2011 and have been a successful touring musician since 2008. My band has performed all over the country with highly acclaimed acts like: Vulfpeck, Snarky Puppy, The Meters, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Charles Bradley, Soulive, and Lettuce just to name a few.
My teaching philosophy centers around making music, backed by a solid foundation in fundamental technique. Creating good habits early on will ensure the ability to express yourself in any way you choose later. I also take time in lessons to focus on music theory, ear training, and general musicianship. While these might not relate directly to playing the trumpet, they go a long way to making you a well-rounded musician. I teach all styles of music including: jazz, classical, funk, blues, soul, salsa, rock, and ska.
I get great joy and fulfillment from performing and playing and I hope to pass that feeling along to my students!
