    About Gregory K.

I have a Doctorate in Music Composition and Piano, and have taught piano for 15 years. My clients have included beginning to advanced students from age 5 to 65. I am passionate about music and look forward to meeting people who share that passion. I believe that making music adds depth and beauty to life, while cultivating creativity, observation, mental acuteness, and perseverance. It is among the most worthy goals in life, whether you aspire to become a professional musician or not. I highly recommend it. That's why I'm a teacher! *** Lesson Details *** When I meet with new students, I discuss with them their goals and music interests. The work we do is based on these. I teach music notation, improvisation, and how to play by ear, and help students refine their technique and cultivate greater musical sensitivity. Beginning students will work with recommended method books, and more advanced students will engage classical and contemporary literature. The specific pieces we decide to study depends on the students' likes, preferences, and passions, and to some extent on the teacher's recommendations. I give lots of freedom, and encourage my students to apply themselves diligently to the discipline of studying music. Combining daily practice with consistent lessons, students will develop greater skill, which translates to greater delight in making music. *** Studio Equipment *** In-home w/ upright piano w/ seating for parents *** Travel Equipment *** Students should have a keyboard instrument of some kind, preferably an acoustic or digital piano. *** Specialties *** As a composer-pianist with a doctorate in music, I primarily teach piano, theory and composition, but I can teach other instruments as well on a beginner level, including guitar, trumpet, cello, and drums. My background is mostly classical, but I also have experience with popular and jazz styles.
