About Green B.
Hi there! My name is Green. My greatest joy is sharing music with others, and I love to do so through teaching the violin and viola. I incorporate a variety of musical styles into my teaching practice to instill instrument fundamentals, technique, music theory, and artistry. My teaching philosophy emphasizes developing a strong foundation of technique, musicality, and music theory, while allowing students to explore their musical interests and a wide range of styles, including classical repertoire, fiddling styles, rock and pop, composition, and improvisation. We can incorporate any number of genres into your lesson, or just focus on one!
I enjoy working with students of ALL ages!
I am a graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where I studied violin and played for four years in the St. Olaf Orchestra, including as the principle second violin. My original Americana music duo Free Winona has toured nationally, debuting at SXSW in 2018 and performing with such Americana-stalwarts as Charlie Parr, Jon Langford, Walter Salas-Humara, Carrie Rodriguez, and Jon Dee Graham. Free Winona opened for Grammy-award winner Marc Cohn at the historic Englert Theater (Iowa City, IA) in November 2018. Free Winona also won second place in the 2017 Minnesota Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association duet competition at the Minnesota State Fair. I also play regularly with the nationally touring orchestra folk-rock ensemble Dewi Sant (Northfield, MN) and the alt-country band Wesley Church and the Fabulous Vanguards (Northfield, MN). I have also played with acclaimed Minneapolis pop-rock ensemble Sister Species, Andy Ulseth (Minneapolis, MN), The Holy Broke (Spokane, WA; Best Songwriter, Bartlett Awards), Terrible Buttons (Spokane, WA; Best Local Band, The Inlander Magazine; Sommy Award Winner), and &Yet (Seattle, WA, featuring Sommy Award Winner Dane Ueland). I play weekly in sacred music settings as the featured violinist and violist at Zion Lutheran Church (Anoka, MN) and at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church (Plymouth, MN). I have also played with the St. Andrew's Lutheran Church Orchestra (Mahtomedi, MN), the St. John's Lutheran Church Music Series (Minneapolis, MN), Eagle Brook Church (Anoka and Blaine, MN), and the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra (Minneapolis, MN). A founding member of the Watercress Trio, I am an experienced chamber music player, and have played at countless weddings and events.
Currently only enrolling students online, but open to in-person lessons in the Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN, metro area and in Northfield, MN, after it is deemed safe by the state of Minnesota.

Green makes my son’s online violin lessons engaging while still being purposeful and focused with the repertoire. My son reports feeling motivated and encouraged and his confidence and skills grow with each lesson. Thank you, Green, for all your passion and hard work!

My kids love working with Green! She is patient and clear, and she can tailor her style to their different ages and ability levels. Plus she makes them laugh :) I highly recommend Green as a teacher!

Green is a dedicated, caring professional who quickly connected with our daughter and developed an ongoing plan to facilitate her growth and development as a musician. Green is well-prepared for each lesson, and communicates expectations clearly with encouragement, challenge, and appropriate support to our child. Our daughter says that studying violin is fun again, and possibly more than ever! We have observed a great measure of improvement just in these last 3 months of lessons with Green, and are so thankful for her musical mentorship to our daughter. You will be blessed and very grateful to enroll with Green while she still has space for students in her teaching schedule. I predict that one day soon there will be a long waiting list and many flourishing young artists benefiting from their study with a world-class talent and first-rate person.

Every time I ask Green a question during a lesson or relate a problem I'm having when I practice, she responds the following week with a statement that begins “I’ve done a little research into the question you asked last week and this is what I’ve learned . . .” Each time she’s provided a clear and helpful suggestion to whatever it is that has frustrated me. I highly value the conscientious and caring way that she teaches.
