Cello lessons for all ages and levels! In person or online

As a teacher, I enjoy cultivating joy and curiosity through cello and believe in creating a warm, open environment for students to develop into inquisitive lifelong learners! While I work with students individually to come up with their own goals, some of the core objectives I have for my students is to develop solid technique and tone quality as well as expression and satisfaction through creating music. I use a variety of tools for learning from standard technique books and classical repertoire to fiddle tunes and rote learning. I believe every child and adult is musical and am excited to explore the cello with you! AVAILABILITY UPDATE JUNE 2023: I am currently accepting students on a very limited basis. Please use the "Ask a Question" feature to discuss availability before signing up for lessons. I only teach lessons at my home studio to adult (18+) students. I teach travel lessons to students of all ages in or near Brookline as well as Tuesday afternoons in Needham. PLEASE READ: If you are selecting Student’s Home for your lesson location and you do not have a driveway to park in, there must be non-permit parking available within a block of student’s home for me to park. If you are selecting Teacher’s Studio, there is free street parking available if you are driving. I am also easily accessible by the Green Line (C or D) and the 66 bus.

    About Grace F.

I've worked in various settings with students of all ages, from beginning elementary school cellists to high school students preparing for college auditions to adults seeking to learn a new instrument. As a performing cellist, I have particular interest in works by living composers and composers of marginalized identities. I previously performed with the Danbury Symphony Orchestra for several seasons and have a Master of Music in cello performance from Boston Conservatory at Berklee studying with Rhonda Rider.

Grace is a patient and persistent teacher! As an adult student relearning cello for the first time in ten years, she took the time to teach me how to practice and how to improve. Even over zoom, she is able to notice details about technique and position that make every lesson a fun and productive experience. I've improved so much already and I'm excited to keep working with her!

Our 10 year old son began his cello journey a month before the pandemic hit, so most of his lessons in the past 2.5 years has been online. While he advanced quite a bit through virtual lessons, I knew his posture and bow hold were lacking, because it's rather impossible to coach that aspect through a screen. Hence, it was a breath of fresh air when we met Grace and began in-person lessons in our home. She is very communicative, flexible, and accommodating (which is so crucial when schedules are constantly shifting with so many moving parts), and most importantly, my child enjoys the lessons and appreciates her encouraging, firm yet caring style. I personally enjoy hearing her feedback after each lesson and have been wow-ed on more than one occasion to see my somewhat pessimistic child enjoying the progress he's making under Grace's teaching.
