Teaching has been an important part of my life for 15 years. I have honed the art of communication and enjoyed getting to know each of my students. I love motivating students to work as hard as they can on music. I have like to be there every step of the way throughout my student's progress.

I am an adult learner and former violin player but hadn't played the violin in over 15 years. I thought the way she gauged my residual skills was amazing. She chose short pieces in successive Suzuki books to assess my rhythm, subdividing, bowing, fingering and knowledge of scales. She picked up on the smallest details - it was amazing really. For example, she mentioned that she liked the left hand frame, but wanted to check on one thing - so she riffed through the books I had and had me play a piece - just so she could see how the frame held up when I had to reach for the high c on the E string. She liked that I kept the third finger down while reaching with the fourth, but noticed then that my thumb moved under the neck - I guess this made her want to see how I shifted positions (I didn't think I'd have to do that in my first lesson after 15 years!) - and she saw that I had my thumb under the next. The craziest part about this is that this is a habit that my high school violin teacher dealt with with me! More importantly, though, she was very understanding about goal-setting. She didn't lump me in with her younger students and asked very frank but focused questions about what I wanted to get out of playing the violin again - some that I hadn't even thought to ask myself! I really look forward to my next lesson with her!
