I, Glenn F, a native Texan, am a recent graduate of the University of Texas College of Fine Arts with a concentration in audio recording, piano performance, and percussion. I am 25 years of age, and live and breathe music. I have a deep set musical ability and love for music and have been playing passionately since a very young age. I am relaxed, fun, patient, and enjoy sharing my knowledge to spread the joy of what has kept me so very happy. I hope to give my students the same joy to keep their view of life optimistic and continue to see the beauty that the world has to offer through music. I have taken piano lessons for 14 years, and studied with world renowned performer and teacher, Nancy Burton Garrett, for 3 years at UT. I've taken drum lessons for 11 years and studied with Thad Anderson, the previous drum director for the UT Drum Line, and Tony Edwards, Principal Percussionist for the Austin Symphony Orchestra. I was a finalist in the Butler School of Music's Nilsson Solo Piano Competition, performing a repertoire ranging from early classical to modern music. I have worked as an instructor in the Totally Cool Totally Arts program with the City of Austin with children and youth teaching hand drums classes and general music skills, including recording and drum making. In addition, I am a local composer and a member of the Austin Civic Orchestra. I also helped start a local Austin band named "Cactus Peach", playing drum set and keyboard with an Indie Rock influence, all original songs of which I wrote my own parts for, and have also written songs myself. We have toured and performed nearly 100 shows at various venues all around Texas. We have released an album called "Eat" of which I collaborated to record, mix and publish with our engineer, Steve Krause, and the rest of my band.  My pedagogy skills include creative approaches, motivation toward high standards, and piano guild completion for confidence and refining musical details in artistic performance. *** Lesson Details *** I am a very laid back teacher, and tend my curriculum to your needs. Though I am laid back and structure my lesson plans according to you, I will demand what I believe you are capable of doing and push you to achieve that excellence. I can teach you anything from classical to rock music, to read music or learn by ear, and sight reading techniques as well as finger exercises. Whatever you desire, if it's to learn how to play keyboard or drum parts to popular contemporary music or study classics such as Mozart or Beethoven, or even composing your own music, I will make every effort to tend to your needs and reach your goals the best way I know how. On keys, my normal curriculum consists of a balance of learning theory and notes, chords and scales, proper fingerings, and music reading techniques, to provide you with the foundation necessary to tackle the songs and music you wish to play! For drums, I will share techniques and foundations to help at a fun and fast pace rate to expand your coordination and comfort on the drums, focusing on rock and jazz beats. After 3 to 6 months, you will feel a deep set passion for the joy of music, feel comfortable on your instrument, and can show off playing as many songs as you set your mind to! There are no limitations in music, and I will be there every step of the way, sharing the joy that music has to offer! *** Studio Equipment *** Studio room with a great condition Cable-Nelson upright piano, 76-key digital piano, a synthesizer, full drum set with 6 toms, steel and piccolo snare, zbt cymbals and stage custom sabien hihat and ride, plus other cymbals such as a splashes and 2 chinas, and additions such as cowbell and woodblock. Also have A Bell Kit. I have an electronic Drum Set, Roland TD-8 module, with a PA system. I also have 4 djembes, bongos, a variety of sticks and percussion instruments/accessories as well as a seating area for parents or friends. *** Travel Equipment *** I can travel with my Acoustic Drum Set in 5 pieces, any percussion equipment, and my synthesizer. *** Specialties *** *Teachers marked as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25 lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students. Piano - Classical Piano, technique studies, reading music, history of classical music - Have studied with teachers 14+ years... Percussion - Drum Set, Orchestral Percussion, Mallet Percussion - Marimba especially, Hand Drums - Bongos, Congas, etc. (pretty much all hand drums). Technique practices, reading music... Drum Set - Rock, Jazz, Metal, Indie, Reading Music, Technique... Music Theory - Advanced level with knowledge of all chords, modulation techniques, have studied many compositions @ UT... Recording - Advanced recording techniques, Microphone vocabulary, proper microphone placement for all instruments, Digital Audio Workstations such as Pro-Tools... Songwriting - Member of a local rock band called Cactus Peach - have written 4 songs for the band, written all my individual parts on Wurlitzer and Drum Set. Have composed sonatas and other forms of composition during my studies and single compositions outside of school....
